House Farwynd of the Lonely Light s a branch of House Farwynd from the Iron Islands. Their seat is the Lonely Light, the main island in a group of thirteen islets eight days sail to the northwest of Great Wyk. They blazon their arms with per fesse: below a black sea with crested line, a black longship, outlined against the setting sun, dark red on orange.[1][2]

Another branch of the family, House Farwynd of Sealskin Point, holds lands on the westernmost shores of Great Wyk, including the namesake seat.[1][3] Since the builder of the Lonely Light took the name Farwynd,[4] his branch may be the senior branch of the Farwynds.

Traits

The Farwynds and the smallfolk they rule are regarded as queer. Some claim that the Farwynds from the Lonely Light lie with seals to bring forth half-human children, while others claim those Farwynds are skinchangers who can take the forms of sea lions, walruses, and spotted whales.[1][5]

History

A thousand years after the time of King Brandon the Burner, ironmen sailing out of Great Wyk were blown off course into a cluster of islands eight days sail from the closest shore. Their captain built a tower and a beacon there, took the name "Farwynd", and declared the Lonely Light his seat. His descendants prospered and continue to live there, though other ironborn believe them mad.[4]

Lord Farwynd of the Lonely Light was one of the many nobles in attendance for the Great Council of 101 AC at Harrenhal.[6]

A Feast for Crows

After the death of Balon Greyjoy, King of the Isles and the North, Lord Gylbert Farwynd puts forth his name at the kingsmoot, supported by his sons as his champions. He promises to lead the ironborn to lands beyond the Sunset Sea where every man would be a king and every wife a queen.
