Kermit Tully was the Lord of Riverrun, Lord Paramount of the Trident, and the head of House Tully at the end of the Dance of the Dragons and during the reign of Aegon III Targaryen. The young knight became the head of House Tully after the death of his father, Lord Elmo, during the Dance of the Dragons. Kermit was the most prominent of Tully lords, bringing them to the height of their power.[2]

Appearance and Character
Kermit had the red hair of House Tully.[3] He wielded a morningstar in battle.[4]
Kermit was a vital and bold leader.[2] While a youth, Kermit was wild and headstrong, eager to prove himself as a warrior.[4] Archmaester Gyldayn wrote that while the undistinguished history of the Tullys was only exacerbated by the character of Kermit's predecessors, he and his brother Oscar were prideful men eager to prove themselves, Lord Kermit as a ruler and Ser Oscar as a warrior. Kermit had proven himself as an undoubted leader,[3] bringing the Tullys to the height of their power.[2]
History
Dance of the Dragons
Kermit's father, Ser Elmo Tully, became the Lord of Riverrun and the head of the family upon the death of Lord Grover Tully shortly after the Second Battle of Tumbleton, and raised a host of six thousand men in support of the blacks. However, while marching to King's Landing to take the city from the greens, Elmo died forty-nine days later after drinking some bad water. Nineteen years of age, the young Kermit succeeded his father as the Lord of Riverrun.[2][4]
Young Kermit became a powerful leader for the blacks who supported Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her son, Prince Aegon Targaryen.[2] The Tully host came against the army of Lord Borros Baratheon at the Battle of the Kingsroad, the final battle of the civil war. Borros led his stormlanders in a charge against the riverlords, though Kermit's host stood firm. As the battle turned into a rout for the greens, Kermit came across Borros and demanded his surrender. Instead, Borros charged at the young Kermit, who slew the Lord of Storm's End with his morningstar.[4][5] With the defeat of the greens' final army, King Aegon II Targaryen feared the arrival of Kermit's host, with the army of Lord Cregan Stark following close behind. Queen Dowager Alicent Hightower suggested for the king to cut off an ear of Prince Aegon and send it to Kermit, though the king was poisoned that day.[4]
When the Tully host arrived in King's Landing, they were welcomed by Lord Corlys Velaryon and Prince Aegon. Kermit and his bannermen declared Prince Aegon their king and performed homage, and were further welcomed with feasts and honors. Kermit, his brother Ser Oscar, and Lord Benjicot Blackwood had proved themselves as the undoubted leaders of the Tully host, despite their youth. Bound by battle, the three became inseparable and men called them the "Lads", supported by Lady Alysanne Blackwood and Lady Sabitha Frey.[3]
Reign of Aegon III
When the formidable Lord Stark arrived at King's Landing, Kermit and the Lads quickly deferred to him. While Kermit thought it unwise to continue the war, Cregan was insistent on marching against Casterly Rock, the Hightower, and Storm's End. Kermit protested that the Baratheons did not have the strength to continue the war, but found himself over-matched and agreed to join his power to the Stark host when they marched against Storm's End. However, the Hightowers, Lannisters, and Baratheons agreed to Corlys's calls for peace, and the arrival of Lady Jeyne Arryn's host in the city led to the Arryns adding its voice behind Kermits. Eventually, Cregan relented though determined that Aegon II's killers must not go unpunished.[3]
When a council of regents was selected to help rule during the minority of King Aegon III, Kermit was one of the notable omissions from the council, though Septon Eustace writes that Kermit was not slighted by this exclusion. Following the young king's coronation, Kermit returned back to Riverrun with his host, while Oscar ventured into the Disputed Lands leading the Stormbreakers. He was considered as a potential husband for Princess Baela Targaryen.[6]
Lord Kermit objected to Lord Unwin Peake's plan to wed his daughter, Lady Myrielle Peake, to Aegon III, declaring it "presumptuous".[7] When searching for a new Hand of the King, Kermit's name was briefly put forward, but spurned on account of his youth.[8]

Family
A great-grandson of Lord Grover Tully, Kermit was the eldest son and heir of Elmo Tully, briefly Lord of Riverrun.[2] His younger brother Oscar was an inseparable companion.[3]
Behind the Scenes
Kermit, his brother Oscar, his father Elmo, and his great-grandfather Grover are references by George R. R. Martin to The Muppets, with Kermit being inspired by Kermit the Frog.
