Nute the Barber is an ironborn raider and the best man of Lord Victarion Greyjoy's crew aboard the Iron Victory.[2]

Nute is a thickset man with bandy legs and long arms. His eyes are growing weak. He earned his nickname of "the Barber" due to his ability in his youth to throw an axe so well that it was said he could shave you with it.[3]

A Feast for Crows
Nute the Barber accompanies Victarion Greyjoy to the kingsmoot, where he is one of Victarion's champions.[1]
Nute is among Victarion's crew that boards the Serry ship during the taking of the Shields. Afterward, Nute is raised to the lordship of Oakenshield by Victarion's brother Euron, the new King of the Isles and the North. Victarion suspects this was done to "steal" Nute from him. He tells Nute to refuse, but Nute, pointing out that Victarion cannot offer him the same, accepts the lordship from Euron.[1]
