Onyx is a black mineral oft used for decoration in the known world.

Culture

Altars in septs can be inlaid with onyx, mother-of-pearl, and lapis lazuli.[1] Within the Great Sept of Baelor, a chamber has carvings of the Seven with eyes of onyx, jade, malachite, and yellow moonstone.[2]

History

The Onyx Emperor was a ruler of the Great Empire of the Dawn.[11]

The helm of Ser Lucas Inchfield was decorated with an onyx spider to represent House Webber.[12] While disguised as Egg, Prince Aegon Targarye kept hidden a gold and onyx signet depicting the arms of his father, Prince Maekar Targaryen.[13]

When King Robert I Baratheon wed Cersei Lannister, the cloak draped upon Cersei's back was decorated with the Baratheon stag in beads of onyx.[14]
