History

Ser Victor was one of the Caltrops during the Dance of the Dragons.[2]

When Lord Unwin Peake became Hand of the King during the regency of Aegon III Targaryen, he had Victor named the King's Justice. During public executions, Victor used his headsman's axe to behead the false Shepherd and a Pentoshi captain accused of bringing the Winter Fever from Sisterton to King's Landing. Victor killed Orwyle, a former Grand Maester, with a sword.[2] He retained his office after Lord Peake resigned as Hand.[3]

During a plot against House Rogare in King's Landing in 135 AC, Victor was named by Ser Gareth Long as being an accomplice and he was arrested. The trial of the people involved in the plot took place the following year after a Great Council named a new Hand of the King and regents for Aegon III. During the trial, rather than join the Night's Watch, Victor demanded a trial by combat to prove his innocence. Victor was quickly slain in the duel by his accuser, Gareth, who had agreed to take the black.[1]

Behind the Scenes

Victor Risley's history may be a reference to the Arthurian legend of the Black Knight, in particular as reworked by Thomas Malory in Le Morte d'Arthur.
