Map project, This ongoing project aims to improve all articles that have a geographic object as subject (Regions,cities, villages, castles, rivers, mountains and seas and so on), and the quality of the Maps and charts themselves in use on the wiki.

Things that everyone help with
  • Adding local maps, to location articles where they are missing. List of location missing a map(see bellow on how)
  • Make sure the location article lead sections, include general description and links to related location. (for example see Pick Article)
  • Mark location articles that are missing a map, by adding [[Category:Missing map]] at the bottom.
Additionally you can
  • Use the Discussion page, to share your ideas on the project, suggest new maps and/or point us to new resources we can use.
  • Improve the quality of current maps, anything from adding additional important locations, to style.
  • Adding Additional maps that present key facts from the books in a geographical context (for example Daenerys Targaryen path in Essos), an overview of war progress( great Example), political situations, major houses, anything you can think of that will provide easy overview of concepts from the books is encouraged.

How to add a map to an article

One of the ways to add regional maps is by using the regional template below, by choosing the appropriate region map and marking the location on it. To do so, simply edit the article and copy paste the relevant code from below:

To mark a location on the map add the following:

{{Location map| RegionName | long=XX |lat=YY }}

Where, RegionName is one of the available regional maps, listed (bellow) and Long and Lat are the X, Y locaiton of it on the Map(you'll have to play battleship with this, until you'll get it right). Alternatively if you want to add a marker with a lable and/or caption like this:

{{Location map| RegionName | long=XX |lat=YY | label= LocationName }}
{{Location map| RegionName | long=XX |lat=YY | caption = SomeCaption}}
{{Location map| RegionName | long=XX |lat=YY | label= LocationName | caption = SomeCaption}}

In case you need some extra tweaking you can see the Template:Location map for further info on Additional Map display parameters.

Examples

Riverrun is located in The Riverlands
Riverrun
The Riverlands and the location of Riverrun
{{Location map| The Riverlands | lat = -16 | long = -88 | label = Riverrun| caption = The [[Riverlands]] and the location of Riverrun }}
