Synopsis

Jeor Mormont has lead a large expedition of the Night's Watch beyond the Wall. There are searching for Waymar Royce and Benjen Stark. The village Whitetree is the 4th village they have passed and is as deserted as the others. Mormont has the men search the village. The only thing they find is a Hearttree. In the tree a hollow has been made and within it they find a man’s skull. His remains have been burnt. Mormont wonders why the Wildlings burn their dead but Jon remembers the Wight and silently thinks he knows why.

Mormont tells Jon to have Sam sent a raven back to Castle Black so Jon goes looking for him.

The silence of the woods and the emptiness of the villages has made the Black Brothers uneasy. Strangely enough Sam, the self proclaimed coward, has gotten used to it. After releasing the raven they ride on. Jon wonders if their enemy whoever it is will find them instead of the other way around.
