She runs to her chamber and locks herself in. She digs to the bottom of her chest where her sword Needle is hidden. A soft knock on her door proves to be her father, who says they need to talk and asks politely to come in. From the way he talks, Arya is ashamed to realize he is more sad than angry. When she lets him in, her father immediately notices her sword and asks whose it is. Arya explains that it is hers and her father asks to see it. Her father notices Mikken’s mark on the blade and remarks that if his nine-year-old daughter can being armed from his own forge without his knowledge, how can he be expected to rule the Seven Kingdoms?

Eddard, stating he is not hungry, withdraws. After he leaves his men start talking about the tourney, but no one talks with Arya, but she likes it that way, and would have been happy to eat in her room. She thinks about how she is missing Winterfell; there is no one here to talk to. She had loved sitting with her father in Winterfell where every night he would invite another of his staff to sit with him, and Eddard would listen to each man talk, which Arya could overhear> She also liked to listen to the men talk. Now the talk of the men irritates her since they let Lady and Mika be killed, even her father; all their brave talk, and still Lady and Mycah were dead. She looks at her cold meal and then at the people around to her, and pushes away from the table. The Speta asks where she is going, and she asks to be excused, but the Speta tells her she has not eaten. Arya just dashes away.

Arya is surprised when Eddard says she looks like her aunt, who was always describes as beautiful, something never said of Arya.

She runs to her chamber and closes the heavy door and drops in the heavy cross bar. She thinks about how it is all her fault since if she had not convinced Mycah to fight with her; besides, everyone says so. She digs to the bottom of the chest where her sword was hidden. When the Septa start banging on the door, she screams through the door that she better not try to come in as she swings the sword. The Septa leaves, telling Arya she will report her insolent behavior. She thinks that if you could climb like Bran, she could steal some food and run away back to Winterfell; she hates this place. She thinks that if Jon Snow was there, she would not feel so lonely.

A soft knock on her door proves to be her father asking her to open the door to let him in; he tells her they need to talk and asks if he can come in. Then he asks how she got it and to give it to him. She reluctantly hands it to him. He notices it is a Braavos blade and that it has Michan’s mark. He comments that his9-year old daughter is being armed from his own forge, and he knows nothing about this, and now is expected to rule a kingdom. He asks who gave it to her, Arya does not want to betray Jon, and so she remains silent. Her father accepts this, saying that is really does not matter. Eddard tells her that the sword is not a toy asks her what the Septa would say about Arya playing with a sword, and Arya tells him that she was not playing and does not like the Septa. Eddard tells her that this is enough, and that the Septa doing her duty, trying to do the impossible task given to her by him and her mother to teach her to be a lady. Eddard states he should break this toy across his knee, and Arya responds that “Needle wouldn’t break.” The sword having a name amuses him and he tells Arya that she reminds him of his sister, Lyanna. Both Lyanna and Brandon both had what he father called a touch of the wolf blood, which brought them to an early grave. Lyanna might have carried a sword if their father had allowed it. Eddard adds that Arya reminds him of her and she even looks like Lyanna, a remark that surprises Arya since her aunt Lyanna was always described as beautiful; this is a term that had never been applied to Arya.
