Alan of Rosby is a ranger and a good archer[1] of the Night's Watch of Castle Black. He comes from Rosby in the Crownlands.

Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
He takes part in the expedition beyond the Wall led by Lord Commander Jeor Mormont where he is a ranger under Thoren Smallwood's command.
A Storm of Swords
Alan survived the Battle of the Fist of the First Men and was among the survivors that made it to Craster's Keep. He is one of the brothers who turned against Lord Mormont at Craster's Keep.
A Feast for Crows
Alan remained at Craster's Keep after the betrayal, along with a few other former members of the Night's Watch.[2]
A Dance With Dragon
Alan of Rosby along the other former members of the Night's Watch responsible for the Mutiny at Craster's Keep wandered in the Haunted Forest, planning to head south over the wall, however they encountered Coldhands who killed and buried their bodies, which were found by Summer, Bran's direwolf.
