Archon are officials which were used in the Valyrian Freehold and a successor state, the Free City of Tyrosh. They sometimes post Unsullied at their gates.[1]

History

Archons were provisionally elected by their lords freeholder of Valyria.[2] Often dragonriders, archons oversaw colonial cities and towns of the Valyrian Freehold,[3] with the exceptions of the self-ruling Free Cities.[4] The ruler of Tyrosh after the Doom of Valyria calls himself archon.

During the reign of King Aegon IV Targaryen, Aegon and the Archon of Tyrosh arranged the marriage of Daemon Blackfyre and Rohanne of Tyrosh. The marriage was carried out by Aegon's successor, King Daeron II Targaryen, and the archon, early in 184 AC.[5]

More recently, the green-haired daughter of the Archon of Tyrosh was sent to Dorne as a child and used to play in the Water Gardens with Princess Arianne Martell.[6]
