Aurane Waters, also called the Bastard of Driftmark, is a bastard member of House Velaryon.

Appearance

He is handsome, thin, with silver-gold hair and grey-green eyes. He has a cleft in his chin. His appearance reminded Cersei Lannister of Rhaegar Targaryen.[2] He is twenty-two years old.[3] It is possible that Lord Monford Velaryon is his father.

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Aurane is a scion of House Velaryon and fought for Stannis Baratheon as a sellsail during the War of the Five Kings. After the Battle of the Blackwater, Aurane Waters was captured and bent the knee to King Joffrey I.[4]

A Feast for Crows

He was forgiven for the crime and won the favor of Cersei Lannister. Cersei granted him the position of Grand Admiral, Master of Ships, on Tommen's small council.[5] He received funds to build a small fleet of dromonds, but after the imprisonment of Cersei, Aurane fled with his new ships.[6]

The Winds of Winter

According to Valena Toland, a new pirate king has set up on Torturer's Deep, styling himself the Lord of the Waters, with three-decked warships. It is likely this is Aurane Waters, since he oversaw the creation of new ships for King Tommen's fleet and was reported by Qyburn to have fled King's Landing the moment Queen Cersei's fortunes turned. His name would be a play on both his bastard surname, and the traditional Velaryon title, "Lord of the Tides."
