Barra is a bastard daughter of King Robert I Baratheon. She is being raised in Chataya's brothel in King's Landing. Her mother is unnamed in A Song of Ice and Fire, but is called Mhaegen in Game of Thrones.

Appearance

An infant, Barra has fine, dark hair.[1] She resembles Mya Stone as a child.[2]

History

Barra's mother was a young virgin prostitute, who became pregnant when King Robert Baratheon visited Chataya's brothel. She named her daughter "Barra" after him.[1]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

With the help of Petyr Baelish, Lord Eddard Stark finds Barra and her mother in his search for King Robert's bastards. The mother asks to see Robert again, just to show him how beautiful his daughter is. Eddard promises to talk about it with the king.[1] However, when he tells Robert about Barra, the king is displeased, saying he thought the prostitute had more sense.[2]

When Robert is dying, he tells Eddard to take care of his children. Eddard thinks of Barra and Robert's other bastards, and promises to protect them.[3]

A Clash of Kings

Barra and her mother are killed by Allar Deem, an officer of the City Watch of King's Landing, on orders of Commander Janos Slynt, as Queen Cersei wanted Robert's bastards dead.[4] After Tyrion Lannister learns about the murder, he arranges for Janos Slynt, Allar Deem, and several other watchmen to be sent to the Wall. Tyrion orders for Allar to be "washed overboard" during the journey of Summer's Dream to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.[4]

Quotes

Barra. Is that supposed to please me? Damn the girl. I thought she had more sense.[1]

Varys: There was another bastard, a boy, older. I took steps to see him removed from harm's way ... but I confess, I never dreamed the babe would be at risk. A baseborn girl, less than a year old, with a whore for a mother, what threat could she pose?
Tyrion: She was Robert's. That was enough for Cersei, it would seem.[4]
