The Prelude
After Aegon made his intentions of conquering Westeros and unifying the Seven Kingdoms under his rule, Sharra Arryn sent a portrait of herself to him and offered her hand in marriage with the condition Aegon would make her son his heir. Aegon refused.
The Battle
After being crowned king Aegon sent his fleet commanded by Daemon Velaryon to take Gulltown with his sister Visenya Targaryen. The Targaryen fleet and the Arryn met in the waters off Gulltown. In the battled the Arryn fleet was able to destroy the Targaryen fleet and Danmon Velaryon was killed. Visenya Targaryen on her dragon, Vhagar burned the Arryn fleet in response. The battle was a tactical draw since bothe fleets were destoyed but a stratigic defeat for the Targaryens since they were unable to take Gulltown.
Aftermath
Though, the Targaryens lost the battle, the Sistermen on the Three Sisters revolted against the House Arryn after the destruction of its fleet.
