The Battle of Riverrun was the second major battle of the conflict known as the War of the Five Kings.

Ser Jaime Lannister, fresh off his victory at the Battle of the Golden Tooth he marches directly on river Riverrun, where Edmure Tully hastily assembles his lord's troops.

Ser Jaime Lannister, met the massed power of the Tullys under the walls of Riverrun. Securing a victory, putting the lords of the Riverlands to rout, Ser Edmure Tully and many of his knights and bannermen, were taken captive. While Lord Tytos Blackwood managed to lead some of the surviving men back within Riverrun, where Jaime has them under siege.{{Ref|aGoT|56]}

At this point, the war is essentially lost for the Riverlands. The Tullys host is scattered, many survivors fled to their own strongholds. Riverrun is besieged, the heir captured, and the rest of the country defenseless. The only possible relive can come from the Starks who are cut off by the green fork river and the second lannister host.
