Books

Bellegere Otherys, also known as the Black Pearl of Braavos, was a smuggler, trader, occasional pirate, and the captain of the Widow Wind.[1] She was born of a union between a Sealord's son and a princess from the Summer Isles.[2] (The account by Archmaester Yandel claims her parentage was a Braavosi merchant's daughter and an envoy from the Summer Isles,[1] but that is not correct.[3])

Appearance

She was "as black as a pot of ink".[2]

History

After Princess Naerys Targaryen almost died in 161 AC after giving birth, King Baelor I Targaryen sent Prince Aegon, her husband, to Braavos on a diplomatic mission. There he met Bellegere. His affair with the Black Pearl continued for ten years, though it was said that Bellegere had a husband in every port and that Aegon was one of many.[1]

Family

Bellegere gave birth to three children during the decade, two girls and a boy of doubtful paternity: Bellanora Otherys, Narha Otherys and Balerion Otherys.[1] Bellanora became a famous courtesan under the name the Black Pearl of Braavos, and her descendants continued the tradition, until today's Black Pearl, Bellegere.[4][5]
