Character
Borys was often considered to be the most volatile and belligerent of the five Baratheon brothers.[3]
History
Early reign of Jaehaerys I
In the older, shorter versions of the book A Caution for Young Girls, entitled Sins of the Flesh and The High and the Low, in 50 AC Ser Borys met Lady Coryanne Wylde in the inn on the south bank of the Blackwater Rush, beside the ferry landing, as she was traveling to King's Landing to begin serving Queen Alysanne Targaryen on Dragonstone.[4] There, he supposedly gave her, on behalf of his older brother, Lord Rogar, the order to seduce King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and so ruin his marriage to Queen Alysanne.[5] According to Archmaester Crey, the meeting at the inn never happened, and the story had been an attempt to blacken Lord Rogar's name, attributing the origins of the lie to Borys.[5]
After Rogar had attempted and failed twice to set King Jaehaerys I aside and crown another in his place, Borys was named heir to Storm's End by Rogar, who had no children himself.[5] After Jaehaerys had reached the age of majority and taken the rule in his own hands, he summoned Rogar to King's Landing. Borys counseled his brother to go to the Wall to join the Night's Watch, as he was convinced that Jaehaerys would have Rogar beheaded otherwise.[3]
In 55 AC, during the tourney held at King's Landing to celebrate the completion of the Dragonpit, Borys participated in the melee.[6]
Exile and Third Dornish War
In 52 AC, Borys lost his status as heir to Storm's End when his older brother, Lord Rogar Baratheon finally became a father following the birth of his son, Boremund. Borys became sour and angry,[2] quarreling bitterly with Rogar.[5] Borys eventually left the stormlands and went to Myr and next to Volantis. He eventually returned to the Seven Kingdoms, where he joined the Vulture King in the Red Mountains of Dorne. There, Borys assisted the rebel in the raiding and pillaging of his former home.[2]
In 61 AC, during the Third Dornish War, Lord Rogar and King Jaehaerys I Targaryen went to war against Borys and the Vulture King. Borys was the first to be cornered in the Red Mountains after his men had been defeated by the men of his older brother. Although Rogar had intended to face Borys himself, King Jaehaerys I did not want to let Rogar be labeled a kinslayer, and personally challenged Borys to single combat. Borys accepted and charged at Jaehaerys while shouting a taunt. He was cut down by Jaehaerys with the Valyrian steel sword Blackfyre.[2]
