Ser Daven Lannister is a member of the large Lannister family. He is the son of Ser Stafford Lannister, a cousin and brother-in-law of Lord Tywin Lannister.

Appearance & Personality

He has lively hazel eyes and a pug nose. At the time of the Siege of Riverrun, he has long yellow hair, a thick mustache, sidewhiskers as thick as a hedgerow and a beard, making Ser Jaime Lannister think that he looks like a lion.[1]

Daven is blunt and outspoken. He talks with his cousin Jaime Lannister about the true loyalty of the Riverlands nobles in front of some their pages. During the war council, he openly says that Ryman Frey is drunk instead of sick. He can also make a jovial impression, joking with Jaime about the loss of his hand and the drunk abuse of Ryman Frey.[1]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Daven's father, Ser Stafford Lannister, is killed in the Battle of Oxcross by Lord Rickard Karstark.[2] Ser Daven vows to let his hair grow until he has avenged him.[1]

Ser Jaime Lannister and Ser Brynden Tully did not think much of Stafford's capacities but they hold Daven in higher esteem.[2]

A Storm of Swords

After the Stark army returns to the Riverlands, Daven gathers the remaining soldiers of his father's army and makes preparations to invade the Riverlands again.[3]

Robb Stark executes Lord Rickard Karstark for treason, after he kills Lannister hostages to avenge his sons' deaths in the Battle of the Whispering Wood, robbing Ser Daven of his chance to take revenge on the man who killed his father, Ser Stafford Lannister. Ser Devan keeps letting his hair grow, although his vow has become obsolete.[1]

As part of the pact between Lord Tywin Lannister and Lord Walder Frey concerning the betrayal of Robb Stark, Daven has to wed a Frey to consolidate the alliance between the two houses.[4] This constitutes a problem, as Stafford, at the time of his death, had been negotiating to betroth his son to Desmera Redwyne, although an agreement had not been reached. Daven doesn't like the Freys, but he says later that he will "wed and bed his stoat", as he knows what happened to Robb Stark.[1]

After the Red Wedding, Ser Daven and Ser Forley Prester are supposed to join forces at the Golden Tooth and meet up with Ser Ryman Frey to besiege Riverrun.[5]

A Feast for Crows

After Ser Kevan Lannister's refusal to serve as Hand of the King, Queen Cersei names Ser Daven Warden of the West and commands him to lay siege to Riverrun, where Ser Brynden Tully still holds a sizable garrison.[6]

The siege does not go easy. Brynden Tully has taken all the food he could find to Riverrun, so the Lannister army can not live off the land. Furthermore, there are quarrels among the besiegers. The Freys are not helping their allies and only gather food for themselves. In addition, a part of the forces consists of Riverland nobles who have surrendered. Although taken back in the King's peace, they are still less than enthusiastic about fighting their former allies. Daven wants to storm the castle, but is not able to persuade his commanders. [1]

When Jaime arrives to take over the command, Daven is pleased to be relieved of this task and happily informs Jaime of the troubles.[1]
