Appearance and Character
He is the son of Hullen, the Master of Horse at Winterfell.[2] Harwin remembers Lyanna Stark's skills at horse-riding, suggesting he has been a stable-boy and guard of Winterfell for quite some time.[3]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Harwin is among the party that comes across the direwolf pups in the snow. When Robb Stark states that they would keep the pups, he says that cannot be done.[4]
Harwin is among the guardsmen who accompany Lord Eddard when he travels south to assume the office of Hand of the King to Robert I.[5] Like the rest of the Stark household, Harwin does nothing to prevent Sandor Clegane from killing the butcher son Mycah. Arya Stark, remembering how Harwin always speaks so boldly, resents him over his inaction.[6]
He later takes part in the Tourney of the Hand but does not fare well, being unhorsed in his first tilt by Ser Meryn Trant of the Kingsguard.[7]
Along with Alyn, he is one of the guards that Eddard sent with Lord Beric Dondarrion to arrest Ser Gregor Clegane in the Riverlands.[8]
A Clash of Kings
Bran believes him among the dead who never came back from the south.[9]
A Storm of Swords
Harwin is encountered by Arya Stark in the Riverlands, having joined the Brotherhood Without Banners.[10] There he tells her what came of the men that Lord Eddard sent into the Riverlands with Lord Beric Dondarrion. He reveals there are only six of the twenty guardsmen from Winterfell remaining, but they are scattered.[3]
When Arya attempts to escape from the Brotherhood, Harwin is the one who catches her. He tells her she reminds him of her deceased aunt, Lady Lyanna.[3]
Harwin takes part in the engagement with the Brave Companions at the septry.[11]
A Feast for Crows
Harwin is listed as being part of Lady Stoneheart's band of outlaws.[12]
