Ser Hobert Hightower was a knight from House Hightower during the Dance of the Dragons.[2]
Character and Appearance
Hobert was as stout as he was slow. He did not distinguish himself until late in life.[2]
History
Hobert fought in the Dance of the Dragons on the side of his kin, King Aegon II Targaryen. He was in charge of the baggage train for his cousin, Lord Ormund Hightower. At the age of sixty, Hobert was given command as he was the most senior Hightower remaining in the greens host after Ormund's death in the First Battle of Tumbleton. Prince Daeron Targaryen ordered Hobert to stop the sack of Tumbleton, but Hobert failed miserably.[2]
Along with Lord Unwin Peake, Hobert was a leader of the Caltrops who conspired to kill the Two Betrayers. After the Second Battle of Tumbleton, he brought two casks of wine to Ulf the White, but the suspicious Ulf asked Hobert to drink first. Instead of betraying his allies, Hobert poured himself a glass of wine, drank it, praised the taste, and poured himself a second glass. This satisfied Ulf, who drank deep of the poisoned wine. They both died moments later.[2]
Quotes
History has little good to say about Ser Hobert Hightower, but no man can question the manner of his death. Rather than betray his fellow Caltrops, he let the squire fill his cup, drank deep, and asked for more.[2]
—writings of Gyldayn
No man ever feared Ser Hobert's sword, but his wine cup was deadlier than Valyrian steel.[3]
