According to Tormund Giantsbane, Howd "walks alone".[1] The Wanderer's iron sword is nicked and pitted.[2]

Howd Wanderer is among the free folk leaders who accompany Tormund Giantsbane to the Wall in declaring a truce with the Night's Watch. He swears his oath to the Watch upon his sword. One or more of his sons is made a hostage of the Night's Watch.[2] He is present in the Shieldhall when Jon Snow announces the letter purportedly from Ramsay Bolton entitled 'Bastard'.[1]
