Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
He attended the Tourney of the Hand at King's Landing with five of his brothers.[5] He was too old to ride in the lists. He attended Lord Walder at the parley with Lady Catelyn Stark. He is one of the Freys placed under Robb Stark's command after the parley ended.[6]
A Clash of Kings
Ser Jared is a member of the Frey contingent that is a part of Lord Roose Bolton's army at Harrenhal. He was once a captive of House Lannister.[7]
A Feast for Crows
Jared is dispatched with two other Freys to negotiate a peace between the Iron Throne and White Harbour.
A Dance with Dragons
Jared along with Rhaegar Frey and Symond Frey went to White Harbour to return the bones of Wendel Manderly (who was murdered at the Red Wedding) to his father Wyman Manderly. They also went to ensure White Harbour bends the knee to the Iron Throne. They offered Wyman Manderly a Frey bride and betrothals of Rhaegar Frey to his granddaughter Wynafryd and Little Walder Frey to Wyman's other granddaughter Wylla.
When Davos Seaworth arrived in White Harbour to try and persuade House Manderly to support Stannis Baratheon, all three of the Freys were present. Ser Jared claimed that the Red Wedding was Robb Stark's doing and that he turned into a Warg along with his Northmen and would have killed Walder Frey but Wendel Manderly put himself in the way and was killed by Robb Stark. The lie shocked Ser Davos and he called Ser Jared a liar. Ser Jared drew his sword and was close to attacking Davos till Wyman Manderly said he would have no bloodshed in Merman's court.[8]
Wyman knew Ser Jared was lying but since the Iron Throne held his heir he pretended to believe the lie and pretended to order Davos put to death and had a criminal with similar features executed and his head dipped in tar so the Freys falsely believed Davos dead. As a reward for proving his loyalty the Iron Throne returned Wyman's heir Wylis Manderly to him.
According to Wyman Manderly, Rhaegar, Jared and Symond were given palfreys as "guest gifts" (guest gifts are usually given when a guest leaves, making them no longer under the protection of guest right) when the three Freys departed White Harbour. Wyman claimed they were all to meet at Winterfell for the wedding of "Arya Stark" to Ramsay Bolton. They were not seen since though Aenys Frey and Hosteen Frey who were present at Winterfell suspect Wyman Manderly of foul play.
Also at the wedding feast Wyman Manderly presented three huge pies at the feast while requesting a song from the singer Abel about the Rat Cook; this implied to readers that the three Freys were actually present at the wedding after all. see Frey Pies/Theories
