Jory Cassel is a member of House Cassel, serving as captain of the household guard at Winterfell for House Stark.[2] In the television adaptation Game of Thrones he is played by Jamie Sives.[3]

History

Jory is the son of Martyn Cassel, who died fighting alongside Eddard Stark at the Tower of Joy, and is the nephew of Rodrik Cassel, master-at-arms and castellan of Winterfell. Jory continued in his family's path serving loyally House Stark; he is Lord Eddard's captain of guard, serving more than eight years at this post.[4]

Jory attended the wedding of Eddard and Catelyn Tully. During the bedding ceremony, he ripped her gown in haste.[5]

Jory accompanies Lord Eddard Stark to witness the execution of a deserter from the Night's Watch. On the return way home when the party finds the direwolves in the snow. He claims it is an omen that the direwolf had an antler stuck in its throat and that the direwolf pups had been born after their mother had died.[2]

As part of the plans for the feast in King Robert I's honor, Eddard plans to send Jory south to meet the king on the road with an honor guard.[6] He accompanies Lord Stark south as his captain of the guard in King's Landing. After the incident at the Trident where Arya Stark's direwolf assaults Prince Joffrey, Jory is the first to find Arya, who had fled. He helps Arya chase away Nymeria by throwing stones at her.[7]

Jory takes part in the Hand's tourney, unhorsing Ser Horas Redwyne and one of the Freys. He loses to Lothor Brune in the tourney only after a judgement by King Robert.[8]

Jory accompanies Lord Eddard to a brothel to find one of Robert's bastards. On the return trip to the Red Keep, he is slain in the street, by Lannister guards under orders from Ser Jaime Lannister, to serve as a lesson to Eddard, after Jaime learns of the abduction of his brother, Tyrion Lannister, by Eddard's wife, Catelyn Tully.[9]
