Ser Lothor Brune, known as Lothor Apple-Eater for his feats at the Battle of the Blackwater, is a freerider-turned landed knight. He is related to the Brunes of Brownhollow in the Crackclaw Point region and but his loyalties lie with Lord Petyr Baelish.

Appearance and Character

At the time of the books Lothor Brune is of middle age. He is a quiet, loyal man. Lothor has a squashed nose, a square jaw and his hair is grey. He is stocky and strong, while not a handsome man he is not ugly either.[1][2] He is a skilled warrior both with sword and lance.

History

After his father's death Brune went to the Brunes of Brownhollow to attempt to form a family bond, but they said he was no kin of theirs. He also stated he learned what he knew of arms the hard way.[2]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Lothor takes part in the Tourney of the Hand in King's Landing. He defeated Jory Cassel on a judgment by the king, tied with Ser Aron Santagar and finally lost to Ser Robar Royce.[3]

A Clash of Kings

Lothor Brune is on the lists for the Tourney for King Joffrey's 13th Name Day, however his opponent, Ser Dontos Hollard, is too drunk to ride his horse. Their tilt is called off.[4]

Lothor fights on behalf of Joffrey during the Battle of the Blackwater, cutting his way though House Fossoway men-at-arms to capture Ser Jon Fossoway and kill Ser Bryan and Ser Edwyd Fossoway, earning the nickname "Lothor Apple-Eater". For his efforts in the battle he was awarded his knighthood and was to be granted land and a keep in the Riverlands at the end of the war.[5]

A Storm of Swords

Ser Lothor commands the crossbowmen who kill Ser Dontos Hollard to keep the secret of Sansa Stark's departure.[6] Following the marriage of Lysa Tully and Petyr Baelish at his keep in the Fingers, Ser Lothor protects Sansa, now under the alias "Alayne Stone," from the unwanted advances of the singer Marillion. [1] Upon Petyr Baelish's arrival at the Eyrie, he dismissed the captain of the guards and named Ser Lothor as his replacement.[7]

A Feast for Crows

Ser Lothor Brune is part of the household of Petyr Baelish, now the Lord Protector of the Vale. It is very likely that he knows that Alayne Stone is really Sansa Stark. When Sansa says as much to Petyr he remarks that Brune is close-mouthed by nature and he has Oswell Kettleblack watching him – and vise-versa. [8]

During the parley with the Lords Declarant, Ser Lothor stands at the door of the solar. However, when Ser Lyn Corbray drew his sword, Ser Lothor went for his. Before anything could happen, Ser Lyn was convinced by the other lords to put up his sword.[9]

Sansa thinks he fancies King Robert's natural daughter Mya Stone. [2] She notices that he always smiles when he speaks of Mya.

Quotes

And Petyr says he’s loyal. He trusts him as much as he trusts anyone.
