Luthor Tyrell was a Lord of Highgarden and head of House Tyrell. He is the father of the current lord, Mace Tyrell.[1]
History
Luthor had originally been betrothed to Princess Shaera Targaryen, but the pact was broken in 240 AC when she married her brother, Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen.[2] He instead married Olenna Redwyne.[1]
Luthor rode off a cliff to his death while hawking. He had been looking up and not paying attention to where his horse was going.[1]

After meeting Luthor's widow, Lady Olenna Tyrell, at the royal wedding of King Joffrey I Baratheon, Tyrion Lannister ponders if Luthor rode off that cliff on purpose.[3]
