TV series Season 1

Lady Maege Mormont is the head of House Mormont and ruler of Bear Island. She inherited her title from her nephew, Ser Jorah Mormont, after he fled into exile. She is the sister of the Night's Watch Lord Commander Jeor Mormont.

Character and Appearance

She is stout grey-haired, warrior woman. She dresses in mail[2] and her weapon is a spiked mace. She is dedicated to the old gods, and loyal to House Stark and according to her brother, she is stubborn, short-tempered and willful.[3]

Maege inherited the title of head of House Mormont and ruler of Bear Island, after her brother only heir Jorah Mormont, fled to the Free Cities to escape justice, after he was caught selling criminals into slavery to pay for his debts. She has worked hard to regain the family's noble name and to help the estate recover from the state of near-poverty Jorah left behind.[4]

Maege had five daughters Alysane, Lyra, Jorelle, Lyanna and her eldest, and heir, is Dacey and no sons.

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Lady Maege and her heir Dacey led their forces to Winterfell when Robb Stark called his banners and rode south against the Lannisters with host.[2] When the northern host split at the Twins, Lady Maege continued south in Robb Stark's host. Her forces signalled the springing of the trap at the Battle of the Whispering Wood.[5]

Lady Mormont and her heir Dacey rode south against the Lannisters with Robb Stark, with Dacey being numbered among Robb’s battle companions and guards. Lord Commander Jeor had decided upon making a great ranging beyond the Wall, to seek out Mance Rayder and whatever dark secrets may be held there, but was murdered by his own men at Craster’s keep after the disaster at the Fist of the First Men.

A Clash of Kings

After the Battle of Oxcross, Lady Mormont captured thousands of cattle in the Westerlands and was driving them towards the Riverlands.[6]

A Storm of Swords

Lady Maege was among the northern lords who accompanied Robb Stark north from Riverrun to attend the wedding of Edmure Tully. Her heir Dacey was one of those killed during the Red Wedding,[7] however Maerge herself was spared of that fate because Robb has sent her and Galbart Glover to Seagard and sail up the Neck on separate ships from Lord Jason Mallister in search of Greywater Watch, to contact the crannogmen. She also holds Robb's declaration that names his successor.[8]
