Lord Owen Merryweather was Hand of the King to Aerys II.

History

He replaced Lord Tywin Lannister as Hand of the King. He was an old man at the time, considered amiable but not capable.[1] He proved ineffectual in preventing the uprising that came to be known as Robert's Rebellion. He was stripped of lands and titles and exiled for his failure. He was replaced as Hand of the King by Lord Jon Connington.[2]

According to semi-canon sources, Lord Owen was famous for throwing feasts and lavishing praise upon King Aerys. When the three lords began their rebellion, he sent missives to the lords of the Seven Kingdoms declaring them outlaws and demanding their heads. He never stirred from King's Landing, and this coupled with the ability of Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon to return to their seats of power made Aerys believe that Lord Owen was conspiring with them. He was then stripped of lands and titles and exiled.[3]
