Rhaegar Frey is the second son of Ser Aenys Frey and Tyana Wylde, who died in childbirth. A widower, he was married to Jeyne Beesbury and had three children with her.[2]

Appearance

Rhaegar is round shouldered and kettle-bellied. He has a silky beard and a sardonic smile.[3] He was named after Rhaegar Targaryen, but described by Wyman Manderly as being a smirking worm bearing a dragon's name.[4]

Recent Events

A Dance with Dragons

Along with Jared Frey and Symond Frey, Rhaegar travels to White Harbor to return the bones of Wendel Manderly, killed at the Red Wedding, to his father, Wyman Manderly. While Wendel was actually murdered by the Freys, Jared tell Wyman that his son died defending Lord Walder Frey from Robb Stark, who had turned into a rabid wolf. The Freys also want to ensure White Harbor bends the knee to the Iron Throne. He came to be betrothed to Lord Wyman's granddaughter, Wynafryd. They also offer Wyman Manderly a Frey bride and a betrothal of Little Walder Frey to Wyman's other granddaughter, Wylla Manderly.

When Davos Seaworth arrives in White Harbor to try and persuade House Manderly to support Stannis Baratheon, the three Freys are already present. Rhaegar insults both Davos and the memory of Robb Stark, calling him a "vile dog who needed to be put down".[3] Wyman Manderly is greatly angered by this, but pretends to agree with Rhaegar, as the Iron Throne holds hostage his surviving son and heir, Wylis Manderly. Wyman fakes Davos's death by having a criminal with similar features executed and his head dipped in tar so the Freys falsely believe him to be Davos. As a reward for proving his loyalty, Queen Cersei Lannister has Wylis Manderly returned to White Harbor.

According to Wyman Manderly, Rhaegar, Jared and Symond were given palfreys as "guest gifts" when the three Freys departed White Harbor.[5] Wyman claims they were all to meet at Winterfell for the wedding of "Arya Stark" to Ramsay Bolton. They have not been seen since, although Aenys Frey and Hosteen Frey, who were present at Winterfell, suspect Wyman Manderly of foul play.

Wyman Manderly presents three huge pies at the wedding feast while requesting a song from the singer Abel about the Rat Cook, implying the three Freys were actually present at the wedding after all.

Quote
