Rook's Rest[1][2] is the seat of House Staunton in the crownlands. It is located on the northern shore of Blackwater Bay, west of Crackclaw Point. The castle is northwest of Driftmark, northeast of Duskendale, and southeast of Maidenpool.[3]
Layout
Rook's Rest is surronded by fields to the west, piney woods and mist-shrouded hills to the north and the narrow sea to the east.[4]
History
After Lord Staunton and his wife died of the Shivers in 59 AC, their children locked themselves in their bedchambers but still died of the illness.[5]
During the Dance of the Dragons, Rhaenys Targaryen and her dragon, Meleys, were killed in the battle at Rook's Rest. Ser Criston Cole and Prince Aemond Targaryen executed Lord Staunton after the battle. Lord Walys Mooton led the retaking of Rook's Rest, but he died in an attempt to slay Sunfyre.[4]
