The taking of Greenstone occurs amidst the landing of the Golden Company in the stormlands.

Prelude

In his campaign to place Aegon Targaryen on the Iron Throne, Jon Connington joins the Golden Company in invading the stormlands. Their Volantene fleet is scattered by a storm after Lys, and only six of the sellswords' ten ships arrive at the rendezvous near the rainwood in Cape Wrath, land formerly owned by House Connington. The gathered force is not quite half the Golden Company's full strength of ten thousand.[1]

Meanwhile, the Volantenes put Ser Marq Mandrake ashore on Estermont, with close to five hundred men. Although the island was never one of their objectives, Marq and his men take Greenstone, the seat of House Estermont,[1] but not before the Estermonts are able to send ravens to King’s Landing notifying the small council of the attack as none of Mandrake's men are archers.[2][3]
