Stannis knows he didn't burn Mance. From the Melisandre chapter:

"Who else, my lord? Only his life's blood could pay for his crimes, your laws said, and Stannis Baratheon is not a man to go against the law … but as you said so sagely, the laws of men end at the Wall. "

Perhaps... But isn't it also possible the quote implies that Melisandre had bent the rules by not burning Mance, instead of Stannis, and that Stannis remains unaware of the fact?--Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 19:23, 24 May 2016 (UTC)
I suppose it's possible, but personally I think the meaning is clear. If Melisandre made the decision to do the switch on her own without Stannis's knowledge, that exchange makes no sense to me. Because then Jon didn't save Mance's life, and there's no reason to bring up Stannis' rigid adherence to the law. Jon gave Stannis the technicality he needed to justify letting Mel keep Mance around, presumably for his possible king's blood. Though if you wanna leave it ambiguous that's fine with me. I don't think Stannis wrote the letter anyway it was just something I noticed. --RumHam (talk) 20:33, 24 May 2016 (UTC)
