Test of template from the Turkish wiki

 • The Turkish version of the War template is copied to User:Scafloc/sandbox
 • The War template uses the infobox template the Turkish version of that is copied to Sandbox

To do

 • add links analyses of all episodes
 • again suggest spoiler prevention (with hide / show)
 • Aegon VI
 • add appropriate copyright info to the Narwen / Mor maps
 • replace gelo e fogo with game of thrones br
 • add italian and serbian wikis
 • get acces to Turkish wiki
 • list with contacts of all wikis
 • create template for age calculation. In the George R. R. Martin page the code is include as follows:

. This results in: 75 In the template the birthdate should be a parameter which is then used in two places.

Checklist feature articles

 • Neutral
 • references included
 • factual correct
 • Complete -> all major events covered
 • Article sections complete (appearence, family)
 • Images; major one as described in the books. quality of images, link to category: images of ..., link to copyright holders of image
 • Actor in HBO
 • Differences with series (focus on what is different, not what is not included)
 • Interlinks

Test with collabsible tables.

Version 1: using the class "mw-collapsible" to an element.

This text is not collapsible; but the next is collapsible and hidden by default:

Enige tekst die pas zichtbaar zou moeten worden als op Collapse wordt gedrukt
Conclusion: does not work. Likely needs extra software to be installed.

Version 2: similar to 1 but the wikitable is used:

The header remains visible
This content is hidden
at first load time
Does not work.

Version 3: using wikitable class

Simple collapsible table
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
Works, though would be better if the table lines would be hidden.

Version 4: using the template hidden

House Targaryen
House Targaryen.svg
From These Beginnings
The idea was to use w:Template:Hidden. The code from that template was copied to the Sandbox but it does not work. Likely some declararions have to be copied to the css and js pages. Possible also extra extension have to be added for it to work.

Version 5: see if it is possible to call the template from wikipedia

Copies the complete page from wikipedia including the documentation. So it does not call the specific template on the wikipedia page but uses the complete pages as a template (=copy) and pasts it here. As the copied text was rather larger and too prominent for a test I have added "nowiki" tags to make the wiki ignore it.

Version 6: modification from 3 with specification that the table border must be invisible

table borders still visible

Version 7: again using the div tag (from [1]

Collapsible div

En en ander aan tekst

Does not work

Version 7: another modification from 3

Different templates

Rather unfortunate the error cannot be regenerated.

Hello

Thank you for adding me to ASOIF Wiki. Your email said I could contact you if I needed any help, so here I am. I added six quotes to the featured quotes section - but do not know how to link the names after the quotes to the character pages. Also, I have more quotes to add, but can not figure out how to add new quote pages. I followed the guide, both ways they discussed, but ended up deleting the whole page. I restored it, but am not sure how. to avoid doing so in the future, I am waiting for some help. Could you either add new blank quote pages, so I could add more quotes (have about 15 more) or could you help by making the description of how to add a new quote page more friendly for users who have no wiki-editing experience? I really appreciate any attention you can give to these issues. Please let me know how I can help in anyway. Thanks, Kyle Kylevincent 16:06, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Houses without info

Hi Scafloc!

You're right that we should think about what to do with the minor houses/the hiosues whe know little of. For Jasts or Hetherspoon's we'd even could include info for the minor characters of their house, but for others all we have is a name, and an uncannon heraldry from westeros.org.

I'd say the best thing would be your second suggestion. Create pages such as "Houses from the Stormlands, and include there all the minor houses with the few bits of info we may have. Not much sure how those pages should be structured exactly. --The hairy bear (Send me a raven) 05:31, 28 June 2007 (CDT)

Husband as a parameter in Template:Character

Ok thanks for the info!

Rhaena

Thanks, I only noticed after I had saved the page that I had not checked that I had the full name in the link. I was wondering how I was going to solve the Rhaena/Rhaena Targaryen problem.

The Pale Griffin

Sorry about the banners, help needed

I got the images from the RPG book that I purchased some days ago.

I'm not sure what are the copyrights for those pictures and to be honest, I didn't even know they had them for such images.

Anyway, I don't really know how to add the copyrights or anything or how to check them, could you help me out on this? I would gladly do it, but I lack the knowledge (and skills).

By the way, I was going to add a detailed map of Westeros, also gotten from the RPG book, but now I'm not sure if I can and I don't really even know how to since I am a wiki-newbie.

Cheers!

Category:Houses without COA

Sorry, I didnt understand the query thing. what I did is change the Image field for the Template:Noble_House to:

{{#if:{}|{image}|}}

It checks if image was assigned, if so it shows it otherwise it auto adds it to the Category:Houses without COA. Mor 08:28, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

I think I get it now. Do you want to add to that list only houses that has no Image AND have coat of arms description? if so it's an easy fix. Mor 08:49, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Updating COA

I tried to update the Kingsguard COA, with a simple gradient to make it less blend, but for some reason it doesnt work. the file was uploaded successfully it's the correct size but it doesnt show as it [should], I thought that it might be some kind of cache thing, so I waited but it still show nothing, any idea why not? Mor 17:13, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

well I recently uploaded another file but I still have the same issue, clearing cache diffident browsers and few other tricks didnt solve it... so if you happened to have a chance to update an image, specifically by selecting it and then clicking upload a new version of it, please drop me a message. I want to make sure it's not some kind of server side upload issue before I schedule a format of my laptop, thanks --Mor 00:29, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey Scafloc! Thanks for the message. I see that you seem to be one of the main guys here. I've just finished compiling all of the Martin sources concerning Languages I could (in one read through) from the books on another wiki, at http://wiki.dothraki.org Perhaps you could look through it, or we could replicate the pages I made here? New Main Page

Great new main page! It's a nice approach. Two suggestions: it may just be me, but the top section seems to have much too large a font, with the main category links spilling off to the right of the page. Also, some more reference to the TV series by name would be good, just to help search engines find us, as we provide relevant content. Unless the idea is to go this way as we set up a specific portal for the show, of course. Thanks for your hard work! --Ran 12:46, 2 July 2011 (CDT)

Okay, I think I fixed the size issue, and also worked in a more explicit reference to the show on the project section. But just an attempt at it, please feel free to adjust it further in whatever way you think best! --Ran12:57, 2 July 2011 (CDT)

Thanks Scafloc. I just dread when that guy gets access. I can only imagine his "better than you" attitude and if we don't like what he has to offer, we "don't get it". The Pale Griffin 18:49, 16 August 2011 (CDT)

Hi

Just dropped by to say thank for the welcome. Btw, I didnt know it's possible to link to templates from wikipida(like you did with the userbars) and that Feature quote is awesome, if there is no template for it yet, there will be ;) Mor 06:23, 18 August 2011 (CDT)

Hi Scafloc (Arek here) Apologies for images. I know you cannot add images unless the artist has given consent. Im not sure how to send message back to you so hope this reaches you. Im a big fan of the series and enjoy contributing to the Wiki. The House Targaryen & BLackfyre Sigils were based on TV series but were modified by me Photoshop. Ive uploaded some personal artwork I drew on two characters (Mors Umber & Moqorro). Is it ok to do that with characters that have no artwork done?

Im planning on drawing/designing Arnolf Karstark & Ser Robert Strong later on when I have the free time. Anyway if you let me know Id appreciate it. Once again Apologies for Targaryen symbol (I do not want to get into an editing war :-) )

CSS

I like your idea of working with custom css, here is few thought I had going over it:

 • Topbar transparency, If still want it, I think you should check mw-page-base and mw-head-base on top of mw-head.
 • Backround Image, I like the idea of the map. I think that it will look better if we make it little smaller, blurred and place it bellow the navigation links (or change nav links color, because it's kind of hard to read it blue on blue).
 • Hiding the logo, I dont like the logo as well, but I like the Idea of a logo or nice background image for the topbar. we have so many amazing artist around maybe we can ask if someone can make something?
 • Fonts, I love hand written fonts but I think they fit better on art pieces or at best you should limit it to h1 h2 h3 titles because the rest look funny in the articles.

Also, how do you feel about changing the over all white background and font color to something darker, lets say: background:#F9F7F1; color:#414141;
and maybe hiding the caption on the main page as well body.page-Main_Page h1.firstHeading { display:none; }

spoilers

Damn, those spoilers sections looks bad, not the way I thought they would :/

 • What if we add a width 100% to avoid the dance of the spoilers? something like that:

A Game of Thrones

 • maybe we can combine the header with the warning, something like that:
 • And try for a more minimalistic approach:
 • it's probably will not work well with other elements and still doesnt look that well, but this the best I can think of right now, here is a quick template that will utilize the above:
style="border:0px; solid;background:none;"|<div style="float:left">
{}
</div> <div style="float:right">Spoiler warning  </div>
style="border:0px;background:none;"|{}
 • which would be used like that:

Replay - Maybe we should start by creating a new template , so we can discuss it there(so I dont have to spam your talk page with the above crap ;) ) and see how it goes. Mor 10:06, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Page/chapter table

Your Page/chapter table at the sandbox looks pretty decent to me, any ideas where and how we can include it in the wiki?

--Mor 00:32, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Scafloc. On that note, you will notice that I have included some information there, including Kindle positions. It seems to me that for that table purposes "paperbacks" are in fact mass market paperbacks, since so far all the regular-sized paperbacks that I have found follow the same numbering as the hardcovers. Do you know if that is correct? Also, I have a wish to include some specific information for the two halves of ASOS that exist in the UK paperbacks. I would probably have included some if I had any. You're more experienced and better at this than me, so I want your counsel, if it pleases you. I'm of half a mind to put the specific ISBN information and the like in the articles of the books themselves. I probably will when I feel like it. LuisDantas 16:08, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Welcome Template

Chapter summaries

Regarding your recent addition to the Chapter summaries, to the external links sections. Since we are using those Chapter summaries for reference in our articles and in turn use them to link back to various entries, it is my preference that we use as little Eternal links as possible and improve our own Chapter summaries instead, but obviously they still need a lot of work and you and other may want those additional reference and considering that there are so many summaries out there and everyone may want to add his own, lets try to keep them under 2-3 ? --Mor 16:06, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Maps

I just noticed your map for the Battle of the Shield Islands. I think that your animated gif solution is great for what otherwise maybe a very confusing map. I am not familiar with animated gif's, so I just wanted to know if there are any limits or problems that you encountered with it? --Mor 11:58, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

I looked on the web if there was a gifmaker and found one: http://gifmake.com/. You upload the different pictures and the gifmaker-software creates 1 gif file from it which you can download. As for limitations: I noticed that the wiki software is not able to handle large gifs. If you try the software seems to treat it as a regular file; you cannot see any animation. Interwiki

There were few errors/spelling mistakes in the list you used (on the left is the list value, on the right our):

 • Jeffery Norcross -> Jeffory Norcross
 • Obera Sand -> Obara Sand
 • Mern IX Gardener -> Mern Gardener
 • Loren I Lannister -> Loren Lannister
 • Smalljon Umber -> Jon Umber (Smalljon)

Some entries blanked the pages, I fixed them and added the correct link manualy in all but the last one.

 • Loras Tyrell
 • Joffrey Baratheon
 • Roland Crakehall (Lord).

Also, I think we would benift from doing those changes with a bot or at least with user with Bot privilege, which would hide that recent changes "spam" under the hood(unless "Show bots" is checked). I had to manually edit the url to be able to see the edit done be editors prior to this change. --Mor 14:31, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

RE: Images

Hallo Safloc,

Template:Settlement

Any thoughts on the new infobox Template:Settlement to provide a quick overview information for Settlement(like the rest of our articles), something I missed or should have done diffidently? I added it to the King's Landing entry for a test drive. --Mor 02:56, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

I have included your suggestions, added a few small additions from wikipidea and renamed it to Template:Infobox Settlement to be inline with the other Infobox templates. I think it looks good, so unless there will be more suggestions(people here seem shy sometimes), I'll start adding it to the various pages. --Mor 06:10, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Hizdahr zo Loraq coat of arms

Hi there! I have a question abour the COA of Hizdahr zo Loraq in his infobox. Why the AWOIAF put the coat of Meereen? Is it a generalization of his belonging to the city or is it because he's believed to be the Arpy?? Sources for wiki work

I knew of those sources Scafloc and appreciate it regardless, however, they're mostly main content related and I wanted to know if there was anything beyond "main" that needs doing? Also I have a proposal for a template (really useful here), who can I speak to about it? Thanks. Winterz 22:26, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Gyles Greycloak

The title of this page is 'Gyles'. It really should be 'Gyles Greycloak'. There are a number of different Gyles and it makes it hard to find the right one.

When we started the wiki we decided for articles about character we would use their "regular" name. No titles or aliasses. I think this is same policy wikipedia follows: using regular names is more neutral then using nicknames or titles. Of course we did not start with a lot of articles so at that time we did not have much problems with characters having the same name.
So based on the policy the article Gyles is correctly named as "Greycloak" is a nickname and not his regular name. All the other characters having the given name Gyles have a family name so at the moment we can make the distinction. See for instance Gyles Grafton, Gyles Rosby, Gyles Farwynd and Gyles III Gardener.
If you think we need to help people looking one of those (and not Gyles Greycloak) a bit more, an idea is to create a disambiguation page (see for example Aegon Targaryen (disambiguation). We could the Gyles page to this disambiguation in the same way as was done with Aegon Targaryen (first line of the article). Let me hear what you think. Regards,Scafloc 18:28, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank You

...for the welcome! Summermoon2 18:10, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Thank you 2

... for the welcome too! And I have a question: I've noticed with most of the articles that in the introductory sentence, people are always referred to as "... is the Prince of ..". Some of them, obviously, didn't stay alive in the books - I suspect this is intentional, though I would like to know why? (if this has been addressed already somewhere else, I must have been blind or didn't look close enough). Is it considered too much a spoiler if already in the introduction you know that character is deceased? To me it seems particularly disturbing when, like in Oberyn's article, he "is the Red Viper", he "has a lined face.." etc. when the rest of the article is, rightly, written in the past tense. Many thanks for clarifying! --Montespan 09:26, 19 June 2013 (UTC)
