As Dany passes his eyes open, two pools of molten gold. His horns are gold as well, and the scales that run down on his back from head to tail. Dany scratches him under the jaw and tells him he is lazy.  His scales are hot to the touch, like armor left too long in the sun.  She recalls that ''dragons are fire made flesh'' and that she had read that in one of the books Ser [[Jorah]] had given her as a wedding present. She wonders out loud why Viserion is not hunting with his brothers and if he and Drogon had been fighting again.  She thinks to herself:

He raises his torch and he sees something pale, half hidden, stirring.  Quentyn realizes that Viserion is in the process of making a cave, a burrow in the brick, digging himself a hole in the foundations with flame and claw, a hole big enough to sleep in. He also realizes that they have just woken him up, and he can see what looks like some huge white serpent uncoiling inside the wall, up where it curves to become a ceiling.  The serpent resolves itself into a neck and tail and then the dragon’s long horned head appears, his eyes glowing in the dark like golden coals.  His wings rattle, stretching.

Viserion then launches himself from the ceiling, his pale wings unfolding, spreading wide.  The broken chain dangling from his neck swings wildly.  His flame lights the pit, pale gold shot through with red and orange, and the stale air explodes in a cloud of hot ash and sulfur as the white wings beat and beat again.
