John Mudd, also called Young John Mudd, is a sellsword in service to the Golden Company. He holds the rank of serjeant.[1] He claims to be a knight.[2]

Character and Appearance

John has brown skin and wears brown clothes. He decorates his ears with golden coins. He has scars and weathered face. John is a brusque, brutal man who wields sword and dagger. He is not well spoken. He is skilled with dice.[2]

History

Although he is not a young man, John is known as Young John because his father, Old John Mudd, was also a member of the Golden Company.[2] His surname Mudd is of a house that had once loomed large in the histories of the Seven Kingdoms. He may or may not be of House Mudd, as in the free companies a man can call himself whatever he chooses.[3] He may be related to another serjeant in the company, Lorimas Mudd.

Recent Events

A Dance with Dragons

John may have been present during Jon Connington's rendezvous with the Golden Company three miles south of Volon Therys, as Jon notices that a Mudd is present during the meeting. Like the rest of the company, he swears his allegiance to Aegon Targaryen before they invade Westeros.[3]
