He then hands a red rose to [[Sansa Stark]], who is overwhelmed by his gallantry and is thereafter infatuated with him.{{ref|agot|29}}

Although reputed to be very gallant, Loras rides a mare in heat against Ser [[Gregor Clegane]], noted as an underhanded tactic by some. His army gathers at Highgarden, and Renly makes Loras the head of his [[Rainbow Guard]], a fancifully ostentatious version of the traditional [[Kingsguard]]. The two remain inseparable even after Renly's wedding. During his march, Renly holds a great [[melee at Bitterbridge]] of 116 knights; wielding a longaxe, Loras is one of the final two combatants, losing to [[Brienne of Tarth]], who is given the last place in his Rainbow Guard.

After his failed parley with his elder brother [[Stannis Baratheon|Stannis]] at [[siege of Storm's End (299)|Storm's End]], Renly appoints Loras to lead the vanguard in the coming battle, choosing him over [[Randyll Tarly]], [[Guyard Morrigen]], and many other candidates. During the Kingsguard meeting in the White Sword Tower Ser Loras places the blame for [[Purple Wedding|Joffrey's poisoning]] at Sansa’s feet. He tells Jaime that his sister was drinking for the same chalice as Joffrey and that Sansa was the only person in the hall who had reason to want Margaery dead, as well as the king. By poisoning the wedding cup, she would hope to kill both of them. He asks Jaime why else did she run afterwards, unless she was guilty.{{Ref|aSoS|67}}

After the other Kingsguard members take their leave Jaime is left alone with the Knight of Flowers. Jaime observes Loras. He sees that Loras is as slim as a sword, lithe and fit. Volume I features characters and popular locations from the novels, and was substantially revised between the 1st edition printed in 2005, and the 2nd edition released in 2011. The 2011 edition omits several pages of Targaryen dynasty character portraits, as well as some other works and fan cartoons found in the 2005 edition. However, it also contains a number of additional new artworks, as well as larger versions of some of the 2005 pieces.

Volume II focuses on the Houses of the [[Seven Kingdoms]], following its history and providing background on the various groups which play a role in the game of thrones.

Petyr then announces that he has a present for her- a marriage contract to Harry the Heir. She is one of the [[Lords Declarant]]. She swore to drive [[Littlefinger]] out of the [[Vale]] and to protect the young lord [[Robert Arryn]]. All of the Lords Declarant gathered thousand man with them to the [[Eyrie]]. They demanded that Baelish gave up his position of Lord Protector and leave the Vale. Until that time they would besiege the Eyrie.

Baelish invited the Lords to the Eyrie for negotiations. Unknown to them Baelish had bribed one of them, Ser [[Lyn Corbray]] to draw his sword at the meeting. This gave Baelish an edge in the negotiations. Baelish asked for a year time to set things right in the Vale. At the suggestion from Anya Waynwood the Lords agreed{{ref|AFFC|23}}.

At the wedding of Lord [[Lyonel Corbray]] Lady Waynwood was present. This was unexpected because Lord Corbray was an adherent of Petyr Baelish and the other Lords Declarant shunned the wedding. Petyr Baelish later explained to Sansa that he had bought up the debts of the Waynwoods. Because the Waynwoods were in his debt he could persuade Lady Waynwood to give permission for Alayne to wed her ward, Harry Hardyng. The condition was only if Harry agreed{{ref|AFFC|41}}.

I understand that coats of arms are painted by different authors, but shouldn't they follow some simple guidelines regarding format? For example, every Coat of Arms should be without the scroll with the house Motto. I myself don't care for the mottoes, not just because many of them are semi-canon and thus potentially subject to change if and when they officially appear, and it gives an inconsistent look to the wiki to have a mix, but also because their placement on the shields is rather obtrusive (and occasionally misspelt, as in the case of [[:File:House Lonmouth.PNG]]). IMHO, it interferes with the design of the arms, looks unaesthetic when the shield is shrunken for the character infoboxes, and placing the scroll directly across the base of the shield instead of under it is not the style used in real-life heraldry either, which it looks like it's supposed to mimic a portion of a full achievement of arms.

But it's really up to the contributors of the images to decide on which style they want to use and if people supplying the arms really feel that they go better with the mottoes across them, they're the people spending time on it.

That said, I think it would be useful to have motto-free alternative versions for the mini-shields that go into the infoboxes and House-listing templates and may make some for the easier blazons later after I fix all the ones where the chevrons point down. (I'm vaguely curious as to where people seem to have gotten the idea that they do, since this error occurs so often in the COA images here made by many different people that it feels non-coincidental in origin.)

And if people want to showcase the motto on an image, it would probably work better as a separate file beneath the shield, so that other-language wikis can use the original shield on their articles as well without having to put in an explanation for the motto on their articles. There's no official criteria that I know of, but generally people picking the shield images seem to go for:
# Quality of the design elements: clear colour contrast, charges well-drawn enough that you tell what the things on the shield are supposed to be.
# Accuracy of the depiction: a lower-quality shield might be chosen if it's more in line with the semi-canon Citadel description than "artistic license" (getting the colours and types and placement of charges right, or at least something reasonably similar-looking). A particularly baffling example would be [[:File:Saltcliffe.png]], where the blazon says "a nine-headed serpent, black on silver" but the depiction uploaded is for some kind of separated dragon-looking heads and necks arranged in a ring. The French wiki has a far more accurate shield depicting it almost like a sort of hydra, though the colours are still wrong: [[:fr:Fichier:Saltcliff.png]]. All else being equal, I'd choose to use the French wiki's version (and hopefully be able to do a decent recolour), even though it looks more like a mass of squiggling snakes than an actual nine-headed serpent, because it's recognizably closer to what the Citadel says it should be than what we have now.
Stuff like shield shape and transparent backgrounds so that they look nicer on the page seem to be the lowest priority, though still nice to have. [[User:Alexander the Drake|Alexander the Drake]] 17:44, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
