Jeyne Greystone is a woman of low birth, born in King's Landing to a concubine. She is the [[bastard]] daughter of King [[Aerys II Targaryen]].

Some years after [[Robert's Rebellion]], Lord [[Arwood Harlton]], a Targaryen loyalist, arranged a liason between Jeyne and King [[Robert Baratheon]] to produce a half-Targaryen, half-Baratheon bastard that Aerys's supporters could put on the throne. Sure enough, Jeyne fell pregnant by Robert.

Jeyne's pregnancy was discovered by Lord [[Jon Arryn]] during his investigations into Robert Baratheon's bastards and the legitimacy of [[Cersei Lannister]]'s children. Shortly before his death, Lord Arryn had Ser [[Godric Donnerly]] Jeyne to the [[North]], entrusting her to the custody of Ser [[Mors Westford]] of the [[Night's Watch]].

Jeyne lived in the brothel at [[Mole's Town]] for some time before Mors discovered her location; however, Jeyne was also pursued by the [[Bloodseekers]], the men serving under Ser [[Valarr Hill]], a man loyal to Queen Cersei who wished to kill Jeyne and her unborn child. [[Yohn]], who had disguised himself as Godric Donnerly, was successful in turning many black brothers against Mors and Jeyne with the offer of coin.

Mors was named a recruiter of the Night's Watch by Lord Commander [[Jeor Mormont]], and thus was permitted to take Jeyne to the [[westerlands]]. At the seat of [[House Westford]], she revealed her true identity to Mors. When the Bloodseekers attacked the castle, Jeyne and Mors fled to [[Castlewood]] in the [[riverlands]]. When Lord Harlton revealed his plans for Targaryen restoration, Jeyne refused to help. Mors was imprisoned, and Jeyne sequestered in Castlewood.

Jeyne gave birth to her child just as the Bloodseekers began to attack Castlewood. After entrusting her child to Mors Westford and [[Alester Sarwyck]], Jeyne was killed by Ser [[Valarr Hill]].

Her child's fate is determinant. Depending on the player's actions, the child either escapes to the [[Free Cities]] after being entrusted to [[Varys]], is killed by Cersei, or raised by Mors Westford before he is confronted by his sworn brothers for desertion.

Following the death of Queen Jaehaera, Lord Unwin attempted to marry his own daughter to King Aegon. When the regents stopped his attempts, the Hand arranged a ball during which a thousand maids were presented to the king. Ladies [[Rhaena Targaryen (daughter of Daemon)|Rhaena]] and [[Baela Targaryen]] presented a cousin of theirs, Lady [[Daenaera Velaryon]], at the time only six years old. Aegon choose her as his new queen, which greatly frustrated Lord Peake. He attempted to have the king's choice put aside, but the other regents, as well as Aegon, opposed him. Unwin threatened to resign as Hand of the King in an attempt to bend the other regents to his will, but they were only happy to oblige. Lord [[Dalton Greyjoy]], the Red Kraken, had joined the [[Dance of the Dragons]] on the side of Queen [[Rhaenyra Targaryen]], and had been allowed to raid the western coasts.{{Ref|TWOIAF| The Targaryen Kings: Aegon II}} Though the war ended, [[House Greyjoy]]'s raids from the [[Iron Islands]] did not.

Lord [[Alyn Velaryon]], denied Lord [[Corlys Velaryon]]'s place on the council, was made to sail against the [[Stepstones]]. Against the hopes of the then-Hand Lord [[Unwin Peake]], Alyn was victorious in the Stepstones. When he returned to King's Landing, his newborn fame proved divisive. The regents, despite Unwin's protests, gave Alyn honors and rewards. Lord Peake in the end convinced the regents to dispatch Alyn to the [[westerlands]] to deal with Dalton, almost certainly hoping it would result in Alyn's death or defeat. The Rogare family soon became involved in the conflicts of this period. Accusations of wrongdoing were spread back and forth by many parties. After these affairs, Ser [[Marston Waters]] of the [[Kingsguard]] became [[Hand of the King]], and sent men to arrest Lady Larra after he arrested her brothers, [[Lysaro Rogare|Lysaro]] and [[Moredo Rogare|Moredo]]. The young king Aegon defended his brother and his brother's wife and family, however, and refused to give her up, which led to a siege in [[Maegor's Holdfast]] for eighteen days. Eventually, recalling his duty, Marston attempted to fulfil his king's command and arrest those who falsely implicated the Rogares and Lord Rowan. Melisandre tells him that she will ask R'hllor for guidance about what to do with Mance, whom Stannis plans to burn, after Jon insists that Mance could be useful to them. Melisandre tells Mance they can only win Jon's trust by rescuing his sister. Melisandre finds Jon north of the Wall, where the heads of [[Jack Bulwer|Black Jack Bulwer]], [[Hairy Hal]], and [[Garth Greyfeather]] have been impaled by the [[Weeper]], making the first of her predictions come true. Jon asks her to look in her flames for the other six rangers. He informs her that Ser [[Denys Mallister]] at the [[Shadow Tower]] believes the wildlings might try to force their way across the [[Bridge of Skulls]], and Melisandre tells him that she has seen towers by the sea submerged beneath a black and bloody tide.
