The '''Westerlands''' is a region in the West of Westeros. It is ruled by [[House Lannister]]. Before [[War of Conquest|the Conquest]], it was a kingdom until the last Lannister king was defeated by Aegon Targaryen and surrendered his kingdom. Since that time, the Lannisters have held the Westerlands as vassals of the Targaryen, and later Baratheon, kings.

==Geography==
The Westerlands lie west of [[the Riverlands]]. The border is between [[House Lefford|Golden Tooth]] and [[House Piper|Pinkmaiden]] north up to the [[Ironmans bay]] and south up to the [[Goldroad]]. At the Goldroad the Westerlands borders on [[the Reach]]. The border runs a few leagues south of the line [[House Serrett|Silverhill]], [[House Swift|Cornfield]], [[House Crakehall|Crakehall]] to the Western sea. [[House Farman|Fair Island]] is part of the Westerlands, the [[Iron Islands]] in Ironmans bay are not.

A large part of the Westerlands consists of hills and mountains, especially around the border with the Riverlands. The customary surname of [[bastardy|bastards]] is Hill, taken from the abundance of hills in the Westerlands.

==Accessibility and natural defenses==
Because of the hills and mountains, the only road from the Riverlands to the Westerlands is through the Red Fork with access controlled by the castle at Golden Tooth. From the south, the main entrance is the Sea Road. It is more accessible than the Red Fork, but the forest at Crakehall gives the Westermen a good defense line.
The Westerlands are vulnerable for an attack from the sea as the coast is quite flat and can be easily invaded.

==Lannisport==
Lannisport is the largest city of the Westerlands. It is the third largest city in Westeros after [[King's Landing]] and [[Oldtown]], but is much larger than next largest cities, [[House Manderly|White Harbor]] and [[Gulltown]].

There are many goldmines in the Westerlands. Because of that, the Westerlands is considered the richest region of Westeros and the Lannister family the richest house. Nothing is said of the number of people working in the mines or in other industries. There is some fishery in Lannisport and on Fair Island.

Nothing is known of the time before the coming of the [[First Men]]. Like the rest of Westeros, the [[Children of the forest]] probably lived in the Westerlands and fought with the First Men when they came. After the Pact at the Isle of Faces, the Children only kept the forests. This means they might have lived near Crakehall.

During the [[Age of Heroes]], the legendary hero and [[w:trickster|trickster]] Lann the Clever got hold of Casterly Rock. According to legend he is the ancestor of the Lannisters.

===Kingdom of the Rock===
Some 6000 years ago, the Andals invaded Westeros. They fought with the First Men and the Children. All regions south of [[the Neck]] were conquered by them. In the Westerlands, Andal adventurers founded the Kingdom of the Rock under Lannister kings. Not much is said in the books about the history of the Kingdom of the Rock. Without a doubt it warred against the other kingdoms in Westeros. Ser Eustace of [[House Osgrey]] mentions that a famous relative of his defeated an attack of the kingdom of the Rock by killing the Lannister King Lance IV.

Given their difficult to defend coastline, the Westermen most likely also fought with the Ironborn.

After the invasion of [[Aegon I|Aegon Targaryen]], King Lorn of the Rock allied with King Mern of the Reach. Together they assembled an enormous army which was defeated by the Targaryen dragons. King Lorn escaped the battle and submitted to Aegon. He was granted the primacy in the Westerlands as vassal of the Targaryen. Since this time the Westerlands have been part of the of the Seven Kingdoms.

During the [[Blackfyre Rebellion]], some Westerland houses kept a foot in booth camps. It is mentioned that some nobles supported [[Daemon Blackfyre]]. There are no Westerland supporters of [[Daeron II]] mentioned. It is unknown if this means the Westerlands only supported Daemon Blackfyre.

During the [[Great Spring Sickness]] the coast of the Westerlands suffered under attacks of the Ironborn raiders of [[House Greyjoy|Dagon Greyjoy]].

===Recent history ===
During the reign of Tytos Lannister, Lannister rule was purely nominal. Tytos was held in very low esteem and was basically ignored by his vassals. The [[House Tarbeck]] and [[House Reyne]] eventually revolted against his rule. Tytos's son Tywin led the campaign to put the rebellion down. He did this so well that the rebel houses were completely extinguished. Since this time no House opposes House Lannister in the Westerlands. Because of this unity, the Westerlands are a force to be reckoned with. Tywin's own prestige was so great that he became [[Hand of the King]] for king Aerys II.

After the apparent abduction of [[Lyanna Stark]], fiancé of [[Robert Baratheon]] by crown prince Rhaegar and the execution of her father and brother by Aerys, a rebellion of [[House Stark]], [[House Arryn]], [[House Baratheon]], and [[House Tully]] began.

Before this time, Tywin had resigned as Hand, and, for the better part of the war, the Westerlands remained neutral. After the [[Battle of the Trident]], Tywin chose the side of the rebels. The Westerland army attacked, [[Sack of King's Landing|sacked King's Landing]], and killed the Targaryen heirs to prove their support. After the crowning of the main rebel Robert Baratheon he married to [[Cersei Lannister]] to bind the Lannisters to his cause.

Some years later, [[Balon Greyjoy]] rebelled. His fleet under command of [[Victarion Greyjoy]] attacked [[Lannisport]] and burned the Lannister Fleet.

During the [[War of the Five Kings]], Westerland armies devastated the Riverlands. In revenge, a joint Riverlands-Northern army invaded the Westerlands. ==Misinformation==
"Arya fled before seeing Syrio slain. Even years after his assumed death, Arya remembers Syrio's words and lets them guide her actions through difficult situations. "

I don't think it would be apt to add this information when we don't know if he is dead or not.

Although it is very likely that he died after the combat with Trant, we cannot confirm it. Since Arya left the boat before he was ever slain, there is a chance, however small, that he made out of the boat alive.

Considering his prowess to beat 5 knights with a wooden sword, he is not a person easily killed, and also taking in consideration the fact that he trains his running, he can easily outrun a heavily armored knight.

I think that that bit of information should be removed or rephrased.

By the way, I'm writing this because as of yet I'm still halfway through A Feast for Crows and I'm not sure if he shows up again in these last 350 pages, but I doubt.

He kicked Jaime to the ground so that [[Zollo]] could chop off his hand. Later, Shagwell, Zollo, and [[Rorge]] decided to rape Brienne, but Jaime thwarted them.

After the dissolution of the Brave Companions, Shagwell, [[Timeon]], and [[Pyg]] splintered off and went to [[Maidenpool]] to find passage out of the area, but could not get near a ship. [[Nimble Dick]] conned Shagwell into buying a map to the [[Whispers]], which he said was a popular smugglers' cove. The Whispers was deserted, and the group camped in the ruins until Brienne, Dick, and [[Podrick Payne]] arrived. Shagwell jumped down from above Dick and killed him with two blows of his flail. Then he and Timeon began talking to Brienne in an attempt to distract her while they surrounded her. As Brienne killed Timeon and Pyg, Podrick threw stones at Shagwell until he yielded. Brienne made him dig a grave for Dick. After he completed digging, he lunged at Brienne with a rock, but she stabbed him to death with a dagger.

I understand that, but I think that that particular spoiler was too much.

It is under the section "A Game of Thrones", so whoever reads that is not expecting such a massive spoiler. It's like writing "Ned stark was the king's hand for a while and was killed by Cersei's account for looking too deep into the birth of Rober's 3 sons, who are all actually Jaime's kids."

Don't you think that's a little too much? If you were to break it down into books, then yeah, it works, but you can't just throw out the information and hope that people have read the book already.

I'm not sure what book that information was gathered from, but it would be nice to organize that page so that no one walks into that massive spoiler.

I'm sorry to bother, but a message in front of the wiki don't help people know when to stop reading.

On the case of Marrett Frey, a person might have been just looking up the Frey family and then he sees all the information of the end of the book. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it, specially since it has happened to me.

What you have to understand is that the SPOILER message is not supposed to be in every page, but on every critical information to the books plot and/or ending. In the case of Merrett, it makes perfect sense to put it there, but in the page A Storm of Swords, not so much, because it is expected.

People who follow this wiki are not always up to date and by not trying (and not allowing) to cooperate with the newcomers will only stop them from joining in. Spoilers are sometimes just thrown out there and sometimes people walk into it unexpectedly. The SPOILER message helps people understand that a specific part of the page will reveal critical information whereas the message on the front page says that the whole wiki has spoilers.

To say "hey, watch out, there are spoilers in here, if you walk into them, don't blame me" and "hey, watch out, there's a spoiler RIGHT AHEAD of you, don't blame me if you walk into it" is a big difference. One that newcomers might appreciate.

I don't see what's wrong with a few warnings in some pages, it doesn't bother anyone but it helps many.

It seems that death has changed Catelyn. She is less gracious and forgiving than in life and is consumed with vengeance on anyone that she thinks betrayed her and her son, Robb. She hangs any men belonging to the Freys, Boltons, or Lannisters; even if they had nothing to do with the "Red Wedding". Her appearance is altered as well, with her flesh becoming soft and the color of curdled milk due to her corpse being in the water for days. Half of her hair is gone and the rest is white and brittle. Also, her wounds have not healed with her face covered in scratch marks and her throat still slit open. To speak she must cover the wound on her throat and even then she is difficult to understand.

Her appearance is altered as well, with her flesh becoming soft and the color of curdled milk due to her corpse being in the water for days. Half of her hair is gone and the rest is white and brittle. Also, her wounds have not healed with her face covered in scratch marks and her throat still slit open. To speak she must cover the wound on her throat and even then she is difficult to understand.

Along with the rest of the royal family, Joffrey made the trip to Winterfell after Jon Arryn's death. There he began to court the pretty [[Sansa Stark]], Eddard's daughter to whom he was betrothed. After an altercation with the fiery young [[Arya Stark]], his true personality showed through his polished manners, which earned him Arya's hatred.

Acting as the new Hand of the King, Eddard Stark discovered that Joffrey, along with his siblings, were actually bastards born of incest between Cersei and Jaime. Cersei protected her children's secret by arranging for Robert's death and then arresting Eddard. Joffrey took the Iron Throne as Robert's heir, and Sansa pleaded with him to spare her father's life. Joffrey gently promised Sansa that he would be merciful, but Joffrey's mercy turned out to be Eddard Stark's quick public beheading before Sansa's own eyes. This rash act was against his mother's wishes and was the major trigger that plunged Westeros into the devastating [[War of the Five Kings]]. Joffrey ruled with whim and caprice, proving difficult for even his mother to control. Sansa became imprisoned to his will, and he frequently had his guards beat her for his amusement. When he tried to have her stripped, his uncle Tyrion stopped him, and he never tried it again, although he was determined to eventually have Sansa in his bed whether he married her or not. His cruelty made him an unpopular king, and he was nearly killed in a riot sparked by his temper. Acting as his temporary Hand, only Tyrion stood up to Joffrey's authority, and Joffrey developed a special hatred for his uncle.

After [[House Tyrell]] allied itself to his reign, Joffrey discarded Sansa and married [[Margaery Tyrell]], but decided that he would conduct an affair with Sansa later. During his wedding feast Joffrey drank poisoned wine and died while the entire court looked on. Cersei blamed the deed on Tyrion and his newly-wedded bride Sansa, but it is later hinted that the plot may have been orchestrated by [[Olenna Tyrell]].

It is later revealed that Joffrey was himself responsible for the attempt on Bran's life in A Clash of Kings. Over-hearing his mother express her concern, and ever eager to please, Joffrey stole a dagger from his "father's" (King Robert's) collection and paid a man to kill Bran. Catelyn mistakenly traced the dagger back to Tyrion, which led her to take him hostage and inevitably caused even more animosity and blood shed between House Stark and House Lannister.

The second oldest of the royal Baratheon children, Myrcella Baratheon is delicate, beautiful and courteous. For her age, she displays courage, a strong will, and high intelligence. She is eight at the beginning of the series.

Like her siblings, Myrcella is the product of incest between Cersei and Jaime Lannister. She was sent to [[Dorne]] as part of an agreement with [[House Martell]] to ensure their support of Joffrey during the War of Five Kings. She is betrothed to marry Prince Trystane when they come of age, and by all reports the two get along well. [[Arianne Martell]] schemed to make Myrcella queen after Joffrey's death, as befit the laws of Dorne, but the plan went awry. During the chaos, Ser Gerold Dayne attempted to kill Myrcella, slashing her across the face. She survived, but lost an ear and received a hideous facial scar.

The youngest of the royal Baratheon children, Tommen is seven years old at the beginning of the series. His plumpness, sweet disposition, and weak will are all marked contrasts to his fiery older brother.

Tommen was crowned after Joffrey's death, and married Margaery in his brother's stead. A submissive child, he did everything Cersei bade him, being more interested in his kittens and games than in the realm. After Cersei was arrested, Tommen continued to sign everything his advisors set in front of him. One of his favorite activities as king was to stamp his seal on official documents.

Though Renly is Robert's younger brother, Robert gave the Baratheon seat of Storm's End to him rather than Stannis. The lands of Storm's End are considerably larger and richer than those of Stannis's Dragonstone, giving Renly more power than his older brother. While Robert lay dying, Renly approached [[Eddard Stark]] and suggested they seize control of the Iron Throne before [[Cersei Lannister]] could strike. Eddard refused the offer, and Renly left the city. After Robert's death, Renly declared himself king. Through his charisma and familiarity with the Baratheon bannermen, he managed to win support from many houses, despite his brother having the better claim. Renly also won the support of the [[House Tyrell|Tyrells]] through a love affair with [[Loras Tyrell|Loras]] and a marriage to [[Margaery Tyrell|Margaery]].

He spent a great deal of time moving slowly through the south, gaining support and men while waiting for the right moment to strike. He hosted tournaments for his men while the Lannisters and Starks wore each other down. This plan went awry, however, when his brother Stannis marched against him. He met Stannis' much smaller force and refused to back down from his claim. While preparing for battle with his brother's forces, Renly was slain by Stannis' magic shade. Garlan Tyrell later wore Renly's armor in the Battle of the Blackwater to make it appear that Renly's ghost had returned for vengeance against the kinslaying Stannis.

A martinet, he became disappointed in his gentle, timid firstborn son [[Samwell Tarly|Samwell]] and made several harsh attempts to engage him in manly, martial pursuits, but all to no effect. When Melessa gave birth to his second son, the more bold Dickon, Randyll left Samwell to his own devices until he approached adulthood. At that time, Randyll threatened Sam's life if he did not join the [[Night's Watch]], thereby nullifying his claim to Horn Hill.

When [[Renly Baratheon|Renly]] called his banners to him, Randyll joined with [[House Tyrell]] in supporting him. At the camp, Dickon told Randyll of a cruel game that several of the knights were playing on [[Brienne of Tarth]]. He summoned Brienne to her and told her that they had laid wagers on the first to claim her [[maidenhead]]. He then tersely advised her that women have no place on the battlefield. After the parley with [[Stannis Baratheon]] beneath the walls of [[Storm's End]], Lord Randyll counseled attacking Stannis to make sure he gained no strength while Renly was away. Before the battle could take place, Renly was assassinated. After Renly's assassination, he continued to follow the Tyrells in abandoning Stannis's cause. He shaved Aegon's head to hide his Targaryen and went to a pubb get drunk, where he lost Aegon.

During the Tourney at Oshford, thinking that something may have happened to his sons, Maekar went out searching for Daeron and Aegon. When he was found he told his father that a "huge robber knight made off with Aegon" and that he spent the whole time pursuing them. Later he went to [[Ser Duncan]] to apologize for lying and said that honestly he had not even noticed that Aegon was gone.

He also told Ser Duncan about a [possibly [[greensight]]] dream he had. A great red dragon would fall on Ser Duncan, dead, but the knight would walk off alive. He said he didn't know what it meant, but that his dreams came true and that he was scared of Ser Duncan. He also told Ser Duncan that he would not fight, at the first blow in the [[Trial of Seven]] he would stay on the ground and would also remove his accusations.

'''Knight of the Laughing Tree''' defeat all his opponents until he was one of the last three champions. When his fallen foes offered him ransom, he said only "''Teach your squire honor, that shall be ransom enough''". The king and some of his friends decided that they would unmask this mystery knight at once, but the next day the knight was nowhere to be found.

The king, [[Aerys II]], was furious and sent his son, [[Rhaegar Targaryen]], looking for '''Knight of the Laughing Tree''', but all they found was his shield hanging from a tree.

I'm not sure what are the copyrights for those pictures and to be honest, I didn't even know they had them for such images.

Anyway, I don't really know how to add the copyrights or anything or how to check them, could you help me out on this? I would gladly do it, but I lack the knowledge (and skills).

By the way, I was going to add a detailed map of Westeros, also gotten from the RPG book, but now I'm not sure if I can and I don't really even know how to since I am a wiki-newbie.
