==Appearance==
Arya is skinny and athletic. She has strong Stark family features, with a long face, grey eyes and brown hair. A the start of the story, she is generally regarded as plain, as exemplified by her nickname ''Arya Horseface'', and often mistaken for a boy. However, there are instances of her being called pretty, compared to beautiful [[Lyanna Stark|Lyanna]], and catching the eye of men later in the books. Starting from [[A Storm of Swords]], noone mistakes her for a boy anymore.

==Competences==
She is left-handed, quick and dexterous. She is a [[skinchanger|warg]]. She has water dancing swordsplay basics and knows how to use knives. She is a very good rider. She recieved a noble's education, and is said to be good with mathematics. She has proved to know at least a bit of High Valyrian. She also speaks braavosi with a strong accent. She has a quick and curious mind and a very practical outlook. Her outspoken, willful nature and her quick wits make her a natural leader.

==History==
Arya traveled with her father to [[King's Landing]]. On the way south to the capital, however, she was forced to abandon her direwolf Nymeria when it defended her from Prince [[Joffrey Baratheon|Joffrey]]. Queen [[Cersei Lannister|Cersei]] then ordered Arya's sister's direwolf, Lady, to be killed when Nymeria ran away, an incident that created in Arya a deep hatred for the crown prince and the queen. While at court, she trained under [[Syrio Forel]], a celebrated [[Braavos|Braavosi]] swordsman. Under his strict but creative tutelage, Arya learned to fight in the Braavosi style with Needle, a slim shortsword that Jon Snow gave her. During the purge of Starks from the Red Keep, Syrio held off Arya's attackers so she could escape. She lived on the streets of King's Landing until the day she witnessed her father's public execution.

With no family or home, and being hunted for a highborn prisoner, Arya became a servant to many parties under different names. First, with [[Yoren]] of the [[Night's Watch]], she was "Arry", a boy headed to join the Night's Watch. He planned to return her to [[Winterfell]] until he was killed in a battle with Ser [[Amory Lorch]] and his men, where Arya saved the lives of [[Jaqen H'ghar]], [[Rorge]] and [[Biter]]. She was "Weasel", a servant girl at [[Harrenhal]] under the command of [[Tywin Lannister]] and, later, Ser Amory Lorch. Jaqen offered her three murders for the lives she saved. Her choices were [[Chiswyck]], [[Weese]], and ultimately Jaqen himself. In an effort to make her unsay his name, he helped her free the Northmen in the dungeon and stage an uprising. With Harrenhal under the command of [[Roose Bolton]], she called herself "Nymeria, or Nan", a servant girl, and became one of Roose's cupbearers. After Harrenhal was left to [[Vargo Hoat]], Arya escaped it with two companions, [[Gendry]] and [[Hot Pie]], fellow boys from Yoren's party of recruits. They were captured by the [[Brotherhood Without Banners]]. Her friends joined the outlaws while they made plans to ransom her, knowing her to be Arya Stark.

[[Sandor Clegane]] then stole her away to return her to her brother [[Robb Stark|Robb]] and win a place in his service. Clegane and Arya reached the [[Twins]] during the [[Red Wedding]], just as Robb and [[Catelyn Stark|Catelyn]] were being murdered. Clegane prevented Arya from running to them, and decided that the only place left to take her was to the [[Vale of Arryn]], which was ruled by Arya's aunt, [[Lysa Arryn]]. They could not reach the [[Eyrie]] and Lysa, however, and were forced to go back toward Riverrun. On the way, Clegane took a serious wound, and Arya left him to die. She gained passage on a ship headed to [[Braavos]] by using a coin that [[Jaqen H'ghar]] had given her, along with the Valyrian phrase "valar morghulis".

In Braavos Arya entered the [[House of Black and White]], where a "kindly old man" initiated her into the Guild of the [[Faceless Men]]. She was required to discard her old personality, including her belongings, to begin the training, and she did, except for Needle, that she hid in a safe location. Arya's training required her to go out into the city under the identity of Cat of the Canals, a street urchin, and learn secrets. One night, months after, she killed a deserter from the Night's Watch and accepted milk meant for "Arya". She awoke blind the next morning.

One of the recurring themes in Arya's story is her tendency to hide her original identity and to be known under different names. It becomes even more prominent when she joins the [[Faceless Men]], as it is the core of their trade.

==Arya and death==
During her journey, Arya was subjected to many hard situations in the war-torn Westeros. Her fiery personality prompted her to take the initiative and fight back, and so she was led to kill and ultimately desired murdering specific characters herself. This course of action ended as of [[A Feast for Crows]] with her being an assassin trainee in Braavos, and becoming apparently indifferent to death and killing.

Every night before sleeping, Arya repeated aloud a list of the people she wanted dead, before she was accepted as a Faceless Man trainee. Some names were added as she went, and others were dropped when the character died or became closer to her. She called it a prayer and ended it most of the time with the words [[Valar Morghulis]]. '''Balon Greyjoy''' was a member of [[House Greyjoy]]. He was lord of the Iron Islands and proclaimed himself king twice. He was a follower of the old custom of the [[Ironborn]] and tried to bring them back to prominence. In [[289 AL]] he proclaimed their independence but was defeated. During the [[War of the Five Kings]] he rebelled again and attacked [[the North]]. In [[300 AL]] he was killed when he walked a bridge during a storm and fell to his death.

==Life==
Balon was the eldest surviving son of [[House Greyjoy|Quellon Greyjoy]] and a woman of [[House Sunderly]]. It is not clear when he was born.
He learned to sail when still young and was a very skilled captain. Later he often went raiding and was known for his fierceness and fearlessness.

He succeeded his father as Lord of the Iron Islands when the latter died during a raiding journey. When he returned to Pyke he found out his younger brother Urrigon had died of gangrene after being injured in the finger dance. The maester had tried to save the hand of the boy but his potions had failed and Urrigon (14 years old) lost his life instead. Balon commanded the same treatment be used on the maester, who died along with Balon's stepmother.

Balon married with Alannys Harlaw who gave him three sons and a daughter:

* Maron

* [[Theon Greyjoy|Theon]]
Later they grew apart.

In the past the Ironborn had the habit of raiding their neighbors. They used to attack, kill the men, take the woman as [[w:thrall|thralls]] and leave before an army could assemble. An Ironborn man took pride in not having to pay for jewelery but taking it from those too weak to hold it ("Paying the Iron price")

In those days Ironborn had ruled large parts of Westeros, including the [[Riverlands]], [[Bear Island]] and the [[Arbor]]. After [[War of Conquest|Aegon's Conquest]] they had lost their independence and were not allowed to raid other territories of the Kingdom.

Balon wished a return to those customs which he considered a better way for the Ironborn.

==First Rebellion==

In [[289 AL]] Balon rebelled. Because [[Robert Baratheon]] had gotten the throne through conquest, Balon thought he would not have the same support as his Targaryen predecessors and thus would not be able to offer much resistance.

The Ironborn had some success when they attacked Lannisport and destroyed a number of ships, but eventually they were defeated. Balon's elder sons Rodrik and Malon were killed during this conflict and his third son, Theon, was taken hostage by [[Eddard Stark]].

In [[297 AL]] Balon's brother Euron seduced the wife of Victarion another brother of Balon. To prevent bloodshed between the brothers Balon sent Euron to exile and swore he would be killed if he returned. To keep up his honour Victarion killed his wife.

==Second Rebellion==
A new chance to rebel came after Robert Baratheon's death. Balon assembled his fleet and ordered all ships who visited the Iron Island to remain so he would have the element of surprise.

[[Robb Stark]] had offered to ally with Balon against the [[House Lannister|Lannisters]] but Balon spurned Robb Stark's offer. Instead he declared himself King of the Iron Islands and the North, taking the Neck thereby cutting off Robb's army who was campaigning in [[the Riverlands]] and in [[the Westerlands]]. Then the Ironborn went ravaging the coastline of the [[The North|Stark-held North]].

His forces were able to conquer a number of castles because most soldiers had left with Robb to fight in the south. Amongst those were: [[House Glover|Deepwood Motte]], [[House Tallhart|Torrhen's Square]] and the houseseat of the Starks: [[Winterfell]].

==Death and succession==
Balon died in a fall while crossing a bridge during a storm. Some portents and the timely return of his brother Euron lead to speculation that Balon may have been murdered by an assassin at Euron's command.

After his death, his daughter Asha and his brothers Victarion and Euron were among candidates to succeed him. Theon had been taking prisoner by the [[House Bolton|Boltons]] and was not able to press his claim. The matter was decided during a Kingsmoot organised by [[Aeron Greyjoy]] another brother of Balon. Euron, Balon's eldest brother was chosen as his successor after he promised to conquer the whole of Westeros with the power of dragons.

It occurred approximately a century before the [[Targaryen Conquest]] of [[Westeros]]. A mosiac of colored glass depicts the Doom inside the mansion occupied by [[Khal Drogo]] in [[Pentos]]. It is also believed that magic died in the West when the doom occured, though the east was different.

'''House Dondarrion of Blackhaven''' is an old house from the [[Dornish Marches]], sworn to [[Storm's End]].

Blackhaven is located near the Boneway, controlling the pass to Dorne. The line was founded when a messenger from the Storm King was ambushed by two Dornishmen while riding on a stormy night. An arrow killed his horse and the sword broke when he fell. When he thought he was doomed, a bright purple lightning stroke the Dornishmen in their still killing both. For delivering the crucial message on time the Storm King raised him to lordship, becoming the first Dondarrion.

Their blazon is a forked purple lightning on black field speckled with four-pointed stars. Their motto is unknown.

The known Dondarrions during the timespan of the events described on [[A Song of Ice and Fire]] are:
*Lord Beric Dondarrion (born [[277 AL]]): Lord of Blackhaven. A young and handsome man with red-gold hair.

'''Beric Dondarrion''' is the handsome lord of Blackhaven. He fought in the tourney celebrating Ned Stark's appointment as Hand, and remained in King's Landing afterwards. This lead to him being appointed to lead an expedition to bring in [[Gregor Clegane]] who had been raiding the Riverlands after the capture of Tyrion Lannister.

Slain in an ambush, he was resurrected by [[Thoros of Myr]] and became the leader of the outlaw band, the [[Brotherhood without Banners]]. He was killed several more times, but was brought back to life each time. He finally died when he gave his life to bring back [[Catelyn Stark]] whose body had been found by the outlaws after the [[Red Wedding]].

The '''Brotherhood Without Banners''' is a outlaw group who fights Lannister rule in the name of former King [[Robert Baratheon|Robert]]. The group came was founded by the soldiers and nobles who were sent by Hand of the King [[Eddard Stark]] to bring [[Gregor Clegane]] to justice.
After they were ambushed while crossing a ford and nearly defeated, the group continued the fight as guerrilla group. Their number increased by adding defeated soldiers from other battles and refugees from the fighting. After the death of their leader [[Beric Dondarrion]] the undead [[Catelyn Tully]] took over the group. Under her leadership the Brotherhood aims more at revenge for killings then justice and protection of the small folk.

==Founding==
After reports of marauding raiders had reached Kingslanding Eddard Stark sent out a force to stop them and bring them to justice. According to witnesses the raiders were led by a man of monstrous size. Eddard realized that that man could only be [[Cregor Clegane]].
In a conversation with his son [[Tyrion Lannister|Tyrion]] [[Tywin Lannister]] revealed that the intention was to draw Eddard Stark to them as they assumed that Stark would led the party himself. He would then be captured and exchanged against [[Tyrion Lannister|Tyrion]] who had been taken prisoner by [[Catelyn Tully]]. But because he had been wounded Stark entrusted the leadership of the party to [[Beric Dondarrion]].

== Outlaw ==
When the group was sent out Clegane had been declared outlaw but after the death of [[Robert Baratheon]] and the fall of Eddard Stark the roles were reversed. Now Clegane was fighting for in the name of the law and Dondarrion and his group were declared outlaws.
According to what Thoros of Myr later told Arya, there had been discussions within the group that they should surrender themselves, but Dondarrion convinced everybody to continue the fight in the name of King Robert.
During the war in the Riverlands the Brotherhood fought a guerrilla war against the invaders. At first the Lannisters and their allies were their targets, but eventually the Brotherhood saw as their task to protect the small folk against all who would harm them. Because of this Northern raiders and common outlaw were now also attacked by the brotherhood. 
This phase can be seen as the high point of the Brotherhood. They believed in the nobility of their cause and gained much support by the small folk who informed and sometimes supplied them with food. Against their enemies they were very successful but sill gave captured enemies a trial. 

Dondarrion was killed a number of times by the enemies but was each time resurrected by Thoros of Myr. Most of his crew refused to acknowledge this and according to them Dondarrion had just been wounded and Thoros a competent healer.

When [[Sandor Clegane]] fell into their hands he was accused of being a killer and given a trial by battle. Sandor was able to defeat Dondarrion (who died and was resurrected again) and because of that was set free although his gold and horse was kept. The Brotherhood planned to ransom Arya to the Tully - Stark cause but Arya managed to escape, which lead to her being captured by Sandor who had been following the band.

== Leadership change==
After the [[Red Wedding]] the Brotherhood found the body of Catelyn Tully. Dondarrion asked Thoros to resurrect her. Thoros refused because she had been dead for too long. In some way Dondarrion then gave up his life to resurrect Catelyn him. After this event Catelyn took over the Brotherhood.

Under the leadership of the undead Catelyn Tully the Brotherhood was less busy with the protection of the small folk then with the revenge against people who were their enemies. Participants of the [[Red Wedding]] ([[House Frey|Freys]] were their favourite target. 
In the epilogue of [[A Storm of Swords]] is described that the Brotherhood had captured [[House_Frey#Descendants_of_Stevron_Frey|Petyr]]. When [[Merrett Frey]] came to ransom him he saw that Petyr had already been hanged. They hanged Merret hanged next to him.
Later, after he has been dismissed by [[Jaime Lannister]] [[House_Frey#Descendants_of_Stevron_Frey|Ryman Frey]] was ambushed by the Brotherhood and hanged with his entire party.

According to Thoros the Brotherhood had fallen low and had become not very different then regular outlaws.

Later the Brotherhood captured [[Brienne of Tarth]] and her companions [[House Payne|Podrick]] and [[House Hunt|Ser Hyle Hunt]] who had been searching for [[Sansa Stark]] and [[Arya Stark]] as she swore to Catelyn Tully (when the later was alive). She run into the Brotherhood after defending some supporters of them.
The undead Catelyn recognized Brienne but was not interested in the fate of her daughters (although Brienne had some crucial information about Arya). Instead she demanded of her to kill [[Jaime Lannister]] or to suffer death herself. Brienne refused because she had been rescued by Jaime and believed him to be changed. Catelyn then gives the command to hang her with her companions. When they pull the rope Brienne screams something...

House Tarbeck is an ancient house. Their seat is near the Crag, the seat of [[House Westerling]]. 
Ser [[House Osgrey|Osgrey]] recalls that scions of his house had married Tarbecks. Also that during the [[Blackfyre Rebellion]] the house had supported booth sides.

Together with [[house Reyne]] they were the most powerful vassals of [[House Lannister]]. During the reign of [[Tytos Lannister]] the lord of the Tarbecks was imprisoned. In retaliation his wife imprisoned three Lannisters among who was Steffon Lannister. She sent a messenger to Tytos demanding the return of her husband and threatening to revenge any wrongdoing which might befell him upon the Lannister hostages. 

[[Tywin Lannister]] counselled that Lord Tarbeck should be returned to his wife in three pieces. But his father agreed to the exchange of hostages. Apparently there was some form of reconciliation or peace because in the books it is mentioned that '''a few years later''' house Tarbeck rebelled.

When the Tarbecks rebelled together with the Reynes, Tywin Lannister was given the task (or took it upon himself) of putting down the rebellion. It is said that he exercised his command brilliantly and ruthlessly. Both castles were destroyed and all members of the house completely exterminated.

* Ellyn Tarbeck. She laughed when the marriage of Genna Lannister and Cleos Frey was announced. She was in the castle when Tarbeck Hall was destroyed and was probably killed.

He was given orders to lay siege to Riverrun and appointed Warden of the West. Daven was not respected by the lords of the Trident under his command and proved unable to make progress.

The sister of Lord Tywin, Genna Lannister is married to Emmon Frey, and has born four sons. After Lady Joanna's death, she appears to have taken a maternal interest in Tywin's children. Lady Genna is a stout woman, although once shapely and buxom, and is shrewd, ruthless and blunt; she commands her husband utterly.

The '''Battle of the Trident''' was the battle that ultimately determined the outcome of [[Robert's Rebellion]]. It occurred at the ford over the Trident, which has come to be known as the [[Ruby Ford]].

On the rebel side, [[Robert Baratheon]] lead a host combined from forces of the North, the Vale and the Riverlands against Crown Prince [[Rhaegar Targaryen]] who lead the loyalist forces including a contingent from Dorne.

The final outcome of the battle was decided when Robert and Rhaegar met in combat, which lead to Robert smashing his hammer into Rhaegar's chest, causing the rubies on the breastplace to be knocked loose.

Robert was wounded in the battle, so it fell to [[Ned Stark]] to lead the rebel vanguard into [[King's Landing]], which was being sacked by the forces of Tywin Lannister.

While historically, the High Septon ruled from the Starry Sept in [[Oldtown]], with the coming of Aegon Targaryen, the High Septon at the time threw his support behind Aegon and eventually relocated to the new capital of [[King's Landing]].

The selection of a new High Septon is traditionally in the hands of the [[Most Devout]] but the will of past Targaryen Kings has often influenced their choice. [[Baelor the Blessed]] had a stoneworker and an eight-year old boy chosen for the office. A new High Septon extends the practice of septons giving up their family names by renouncing any kind of individual name. This leads to trouble distinguishing between various past holders of the office, as one can only refer to them by descriptions such as "the fat one" or the "one before the fat one"

Three High Septons have appeared in the story. The first was a grossly fat man who had been High Septon for many years before being killed in a riot in King's Landing. His replacement was selected by [[Tyrion Lannister]], an old man who prayed with [[Lancel Lannister]]. This caused Queen [[Cersei]] to
cause his death, which lead to a new High Septon, one who was not to her liking either, as he was one of the "[[sparrows]]" who have turned up as refugees after the events of the [[War of the Five Kings]]. It is also said that he saved his cousin Aemon the Dragonknight from a snake pit, where he was bitten many times by the vipers whose vemon could not kill him because of his faith in the Seven; this tale may simply be a metaphorical version of his visit to Dorne, referring to Dorne itself as a "snake pit," and the Dornish, "vipers."

Baelor earned the contempt of his nobles by forcing a lord to wash the feet of a leper, and making an eight year old boy [[High Septon]]. ==Estimation of the birth and death years of persons==
My idea is to get more information about the birth and death year of persons in ASOIAF. The information then can be used in serious articles and gives a more complete image of AWOIAF.

===Method===
The birth and death years of some persons are mentioned in the books, others can be calculated or deducted. With those numbers the years of others can then again be calculated and deducted. 

To make the calculations and deductions I had 1 major fact and 1 major assumption
* [[Baelor Breakspear]] died when he was 39. The year in which he died was [[208 AL]]. That means he was born in [[169 AL]] or [[168 AL]] if he died before his birthday.
* Some is unlikely to father a child or become pregnant before the age of 15. Of course there could be exceptions (and thus errors in the deductions) but overall this seems fair.

With the points above a lot can be deducted & calculated. I have put them in the table below. Both for birth year and death year there is an min and a max column. The reasoning for the years are in the columns "Explanations".

==Background==
King Viserys had three children by his first queen, a daughter of [[House Arryn]]: two sons who died in infancy and a daughter, [[Rhaenyra Targaryen|Rhaenyra]]. Lacking a son to succeed him, Viserys began to train Princess Rhaenyra to be his heiress-apparent. Young Rhaenyra was included in discussions of the affairs of state, and was allowed to participate in meetings of the [[Small Council]]. Many of the nobles took note, and Rhaenyra soon acquired a clique of adherents and supporters.

However, after Viserys's queen died, the king remarried, this time to a [[House Hightower|Hightower]]. The new Hightower queen quickly produced three sons and a daughter, the eldest son named [[Aegon II|Aegon]]. Nonetheless, Rhaenyra's place in the succession seemed undisturbed; Viserys even formalized the succession in his will.

==War==
Upon the death of Viserys, the Lord Commander of the [[Kingsguard]], Ser Criston Cole, later called "the Kingmaker", defied the king's will, and crowned Prince Aegon as Aegon II. Ser Criston's motivations for doing so are unclear, but it was reputed that he and Rhaenyra were lovers before he took the white cloak, and their affair ended badly, adding a personal dimension to the conflict. In any event, many of the lords of the realm were aware of Viserys's wish to have Rhaenyra succeed him as Westeros's first queen regnant, and threw their support behind the princess. Doubtless, many of them were also the same clique who has spent years currying favor with the presumptive future queen. Conversely, [[Aegon II|Aegon]] had the support of many other lords, and a great armed conflict engulfed Westeros.
The result was a devastating civil war which lasted for over a year, with the Targaryen family, the realm, and the Kingsguard divided against themselves. Many lesser branches of House Targaryen were exterminated in the war and most of the Targaryen dragons as well.

==End==
In circumstances not yet fully revealed, Rhaenyra came to be put to death as a traitor at the hands of her brother Aegon II, who had her eaten by his dragon as her son [[Aegon III|Aegon]] watched. Later still, Aegon died, and was succeeded by his nephew, Rhaenyra's son, who would reign as Aegon III.

After Aegon's Conquest and the new rule of the Targaryen kings over the Seven Kingdoms of old, the need of a common calendar appeared.

It was chosen to take [[Aegon's Landing]] to Westeros in what would become tha capital city of [[King's Landing]] as an [[w:Epoch (reference date)|epoch]]. Maesters and educated people counted the years in relation to that event.

After Aegon's Conquest and the new rule of the Targaryen kings over the Seven Kingdoms of old, the need of a common calendar appeared.

After Aegon's Conquest and the new rule of the Targaryen kings over the Seven Kingdoms of old, the need of a common calendar appeared.
