[[Littlefinger]] repeated hints at, and then outright claims his paternity to Sansa while with her in the [[Eyrie]]. Is there any supporting evidence to such a claim? We hear how Sansa, alone of her siblings, takes after the Tully side. But nowhere do I recall any mention of a resemblance to Littlefinger. Do we know whether Littlefinger might have had an opportunity to father Sansa on Catelyn? I don't recall any mention of them travelling together. This whole line seems like a self-induced delusion of some sort. However that seems odd coming from such a clear-eyed character like Littlefinger. Is there an examination of this claim anywhere? It is my understanding that this ''prophecy'' is based on the idea that he described the aftermath of the Red Wedding. I have added his ''prophecies'' to the article for reference and rephrased the article a bit to make it sound less definitive. --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 04:16, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Since a shadow is a "servant of the light", the sorceress is able to invoke the human-like shadow assassin and direct it against her enemy. The shadow assassin is formed through an act of sexual intercourse between Melisandre and her liege, [[Stannis Baratheon]]. After a period of "gestation", Melisandre can invoke the shadow being by "birthing" it. During the birth, the shadow assassin is visible and takes the form recognizable as Stannis Baratheon. Later, the shadow assassin becomes more shadow-like and difficult to detect by eye. The shadow being is armed with a sword, similar to the flaming sword wielded by Stannis. When the shadow assassin attacks its target it is nearly invisible. It uses its sword and stabs for the neck before disappearing.

The effect on Stannis Baratheon is significant. He appears to have aged years after siring a shadow assassin on Melisandre. Perhaps this is why no shadow assassin is used during the attack on King's Landing. Stannis perceives the actions of the shadow assassin as though they his own dream.

Stannis did not bring his suspicions to Robert, as he knew coming from him Robert would not believe the charges (Robert had no love for his brother Stannis), but would listen if the charges came from Jon Arryn whom Robert loved. They visited several of Robert's [[Bastardy|baseborn]] children in the city and Stannis pointed out that all had black hair and they looked like Robert, while Lord Jon consulted the book ''[[The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms]]'' of past marriages of Noble Houses and discovered the same was true: whenever a Baratheon wed, their sons and daughters would have black hair.

After determining that the children were in fact not Robert's, Lord Jon meant to act and even planned for his son [[Robert Arryn]] to be fostered with Stannis on [[Dragonstone]]. However, Lord Arryn was poisoned before he could bring the evidence before Robert.

When Robert died, Stannis claimed the Iron Throne as Robert's heir; however most of the Baratheon bannermen followed his more charismatic brother when Renly also claimed the throne.

Stannis converted to the R'hllor faith, seeking only the power that Melisandre promised would follow, and prepared for war. His switch to the faith of R'hllor divided Stannis's own men into two faction [[King's Men]] who still worshiped the [[Faith of the Seven]] and [[Queen's Men]] who worshiped R'hllor. Stannis had hundreds of letter sent to every Lord throughout [[Westeros]] proclaiming himself a King and claiming (correctly) that Cersei's children were not Robert's children.

Rather than a direct assault on [[King's Landing]], Stannis first led his forces to a siege of [[Storm's End]], hoping to draw Renly into a trap. When Renly arrived at the head of his army to lift the siege, Melisandre used her magic to birth a shadow incarnation of Stannis, which assassinated Renly in his tent. The majority of Renly's followers immediate swore allegiance to Stannis.

After the death of Ser [[Cortnay Penrose]] and with [[Storm's End]] in Stannis's control Stannis launched an [[Battle of the Blackwater|amphibious assault on King's Landing]]. His forces were defeated at the cusp of victory when [[House Lannister|Lannister]] and [[House Tyrell|Tyrell]] reinforcements unexpectedly arrived, seemingly led by Renly's ghost (it was in fact [[Garlan Tyrell]] wearing the deceased Renly's armour).

Stannis though initially reluctant {{Ref|aSoS|36}} was about to follow through with the ritual when his [[Hand of the King|Hand]], [[Davos Seaworth]], smuggled the boy away and urged Stannis to take his remaining forces north to defend the [[Wall]].{{Ref|aSoS|63}}

Stannis agreed, and arrived at the Wall just in time to crush a [[wildlings|wildlings]] assault at the [[Battle of Castle Black]].{{Ref|aSoS|73}} He stayed at the Wall to negotiate a settlement compromise with the wildlings and offered to legitimize [[Jon Snow]] as heir of Winterfell if he would support Stannis's rule.{{Ref|aSoS|76}} The offer fell through when Jon was selected as Lord Commander of the [[Night's Watch]].{{Ref|aSoS|79}} Stannis continues to seek support in the North for another attempt at the throne.

Stannis was counselled by [[Arnolf Karstark]] via raven messages to join his strength to his and attack the [[Dreadfort]]. Stannis agreed and planned on attacking the [[Dreadfort]] when [[Ramsay Bolton]] marches south to take [[Moat Cailin]] (unknown to Stannis was that Arnolf Karstark was working for the [[House Bolton]] and was trying to lure Stannis into a trap). [[Jon Snow]] however when hearing the plan persuedes Stannis not to go down this course as Jon knows how strong the Dreadfort is even with a small garrison.

Instead Stannis goes west to take [[Deepwood Motte]] which is currently in Ironborn hands. [[Jon Snow]] advises him to go through the mountains and win the support of the mountain clans [[House Flint of the mountains|Flint]], [[House Wull|Wull]], [[House Norrey|Norrey]] and [[House Liddle|Liddle]] who were loyal to [[Eddard Stark]], Stannis wins over several of their commanders, such as [[Torghen Flint|Old Flint]] and [[Hugo Wull|Big Bucket]]. Stannis now has an additional three thousand men and attacked [[Deepwood Motte]] in what became known as the [[Retaking of Deepwood Motte]].{{Ref|aDwD|26}} Stannis took several ironborn captive such as [[Asha Greyjoy]] he then returns Deepwood Motte back to [[House Glover]] this act gained him popular support in the North and earned him the support of [[House Glover]] and [[House Mormont]]. In a sample chapter released in the Winds of Winter, it was however revealed that Stannis is still alive and supports the theory that the letter written by Ramsay about the battle with Stannis was just a lie Ramsay wrote in his wrath though it takes place before the last Jon Snow chapter of [[A Dance with Dragons]].

Stannis recieved the banker [[Tycho Nestoris]] and the two signed a contract, Stannis plans on sending the Banker back tot he Wall so he does not get caught up in the fighting.

Stannis is now aware of the planned treachery of [[Arnolf Karstark]] due to the message [[Jon Snow]] gave the banker. Stannis has Arnolf, his son [[Arthor Karstark|Arthor]] and three grandsons arrested and plans to execute them, whether the death will be quick or by fire depended on there willingless to confess. Stannis is at the moment is preparing his position to battle the coming vanguard of [[Roose Bolton]] army led by [[Hosteen Frey]]. Stannis is sending [[Justin Massey]] to escort [[Arya Stark]] (actually unknown to Stannis, [[Jeyne Poole]]) back to the Wall to reunite the girl with her brother [[Jon Snow]] in gratitude for Snow warning him of Karstarks planned treachery.

Stannis also orders Massey to go with [[Tycho Nestoris]] to [[Braavos]] where Massey will use the money given to him by the [[Iron Bank of Braavos]] to hire sellsword companies till he has a force of no less then twenty thousand strong and sail back to [[Westeros]].

The Pact began 4,000 years of friendship between the two peoples. The First Men set aside their religion to worship the children's nature gods. When the [[Others]] began to invade from the far north of Westeros, the First Men and the children joined forces in the [[The Long Night#War for the Dawn|War for the Dawn]]. A legendary hero called [[Azor Ahai]] is said to have led the coalition against the Others, wielding a fiery sword called Lightbringer. The Others were driven back, and the [[Night's Watch]] was created to keep them at bay.

Around 6,000 years before Aegon's Landing, the [[Andal]]s began their invasion of Westeros. For several hundred years the First Men and the Andals fought for control of the continent. Eventually, the Andals conquered the southern half of the continent, while the Kings of Winter stopped all Andal incursions through the Neck at [[Moat Cailin]]. While much of their culture was lost over the millenia, the people of the North retained the spirit of the First Men.

The Targaryens built the Dragonpit in King's Landing to raise and house their dragons. The eggs were highly valuable, both for their beauty and exotic nature as well as their potential to hatch dragons. Many futile attempts were made to hatch dragons from petrified eggs. The [[Tragedy of Summerhall]] resulted from [[Aegon V]]'s attempt. [[Aegon III]], the Dragonbane had nine mages cross the narrow sea to use their magics, [[Baelor I]] the Blessed prayed over the eggs. Also The art of taming and commanding dragons enough to ride is considered lost aside from a few exceedingly rare books.

After the fall of the castle, Stannis was given Dragonstone instead of the wealthier Storm's End which was given to [[Renly Baratheon]]. Stannis perceived this as an insult, though Dragonstone is the traditional holding for the king's heir. Robert also made Stannis his Master of Ships on the [[small council]]<ref>[[A Game of Thrones]], [[A Game of Thrones-Chapter 27|Chapter 27]], Eddard</ref>. Despite Stannis's loyalty and service to his brother Robert, Robert gave Stannis little in return; instead of thanking him for holding Storm's End against the [[House Tyrell|Tyrells]] he thanked [[Eddard Stark]] for lifting the siege instead. Instead of thanking Stannis for capturing [[Dragonstone]] for him, Robert blamed Stannis for the escape of [[Viserys Targaryen|Viserys]] and [[Daenerys Targaryen|Daenerys]] Targaryen (even though they fled long before Stannis's newly built fleet had even arrived). According to [[Cersei Lannister]] Robert even meant Stannis recieving Dragonstone as a slight. Stannis helped [[Jon Arryn]] in ruling the kingdom but got little or no acknowledgement or thanks from his elder brother who spent all his time, hunting, drinking and whoring.

Prior to the events of the first book [[A Game of Thrones]], Stannis suspected Robert's children from his marriage to Queen [[Cersei Lannister]] were not actually Robert's. He confided his suspicions to Lord [[Jon Arryn]] the [[Hand of the King]] and they investigated the matter together. Stannis did not bring his suspicions to Robert, as he knew coming from him Robert would not believe the charges (Robert had no love for his brother Stannis), but would listen if the charges came from Jon Arryn whom Robert loved. They visited several of Robert's [[Bastardy|baseborn]] children in the city and Stannis pointed out that all had black hair and they looked like Robert, while Lord Jon consulted the book ''[[The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms]]'' of past marriages of Noble Houses and discovered the same was true: whenever a Baratheon wed, their sons and daughters would have black hair.

After determining that the children were in fact not Robert's, Lord Jon meant to act and even planned for his son [[Robert Arryn]] to be fostered with Stannis on [[Dragonstone]]. However, Lord Arryn was poisoned before he could bring the evidence before Robert.

On [[Dragonstone]] with many of his wife's Florent relatives acting as his counselors, he gathered what strength he could. During this time, Selyse fell under the influence of the sorceress [[Melisandre]], who proclaimed Stannis to be [[Azor Ahai]] reborn, a messianic figure of the [[R'hllor]] faith. When Robert died, Stannis claimed the Iron Throne as Robert's heir; however most of the Baratheon bannermen followed his more charismatic brother when Renly also claimed the throne.

Stannis converted to the R'hllor faith, seeking only the power that Melisandre promised would follow, and prepared for war. His switch to the faith of R'hllor divided Stannis's own men into two faction [[King's Men]] who still worshiped the [[Faith of the Seven]] and [[Queen's Men]] who worshiped R'hllor. Stannis had hundreds of letter sent to every Lord throughout [[Westeros]] proclaiming himself a King and claiming (correctly) that Cersei's children were not Robert's children.

Rather than a direct assault on [[King's Landing]], Stannis first led his forces to a siege of [[Storm's End]], hoping to draw Renly into a trap. When Renly arrived at the head of his army to lift the siege, Melisandre used her magic to birth a shadow incarnation of Stannis, which assassinated Renly in his tent. Swallowing his sense of justice, Stannis recruited most his brother's treasonous host into his own army, Stannis hated pardoning many of the Lords and knights for their treason when he had punished better men (such as Davos) for far less.

After the death of Ser [[Cortnay Penrose]] and with [[Storm's End]] in Stannis's control Stannis launched an [[Battle of the Blackwater|amphibious assault on King's Landing]]. His forces were defeated at the cusp of victory when [[House Lannister|Lannister]] and [[House Tyrell|Tyrell]] reinforcements unexpectedly arrived, seemingly led by Renly's ghost (it was in fact [[Garlan Tyrell]] wearing the deceased Renly's armour).

Stannis returned to [[Dragonstone]], his host broken.{{Ref|aSoS|10}} He had [[Alester Florent]] his [[Hand of the King]] imprisoned when the man attempted to make peace with the [[House Lannister|Lannisters]] by offering them Stannis's daughter [[Shireen Baratheon]] as a hostage.{{Ref|aSoS|25}}

When [[Davos Seaworth]] returns to Dragonstone, Stannis has him brought before him to hear [[Axell Florent]]'s plan to assault [[Claw Isle]] and put the island to the sword. Davos calls the plan evil, stating that the smallfolk of Claw Isle were not traitors. Stannis agreed and named [[Davos Seaworth]] his new [[Hand of the King]] since Davos was one of the few men who had the courage to tell his King the truth, even when he knew the truth would not be well received.{{Ref|aSoS|36}}

Melisandre urged him to sacrifice [[Edric Storm]] to complete a spell that she claimed would raise dragons from stone and grant him more power. Stannis though initially reluctant {{Ref|aSoS|36}} was about to follow through with the ritual when his [[Hand of the King|Hand]], [[Davos Seaworth]], smuggled the boy away and urged Stannis to take his remaining forces north to defend the [[Wall]].{{Ref|aSoS|63}}

Stannis agreed, and arrived at the Wall just in time to crush a [[wildlings|wildlings]] assault at the [[Battle of Castle Black]].{{Ref|aSoS|73}} He stayed at the Wall to negotiate a settlement compromise with the wildlings and offered to legitimize [[Jon Snow]] as heir of Winterfell if he would support Stannis's rule.{{Ref|aSoS|76}} The offer fell through when Jon was selected as Lord Commander of the [[Night's Watch]].{{Ref|aSoS|79}} Stannis continues to seek support in the North for another attempt at the throne.

Stannis was counselled by [[Arnolf Karstark]] via raven messages to join his strength to his and attack the [[Dreadfort]]. Stannis agreed and planned on attacking the [[Dreadfort]] when [[Ramsay Bolton]] marches south to take [[Moat Cailin]] (unknown to Stannis was that Arnolf Karstark was working for the [[House Bolton]] and was trying to lure Stannis into a trap). [[Jon Snow]] however when hearing the plan persuedes Stannis not to go down this course as Jon knows how strong the Dreadfort is even with a small garrison.

Instead Stannis goes west to take [[Deepwood Motte]] which is currently in Ironborn hands. [[Jon Snow]] advises him to go through the mountains and win the support of the mountain clans [[House Flint of the mountains|Flint]], [[House Wull|Wull]], [[House Norrey|Norrey]] and [[House Liddle|Liddle]] who were loyal to [[Eddard Stark]], Stannis wins over several of their commanders, such as [[Torghen Flint|Old Flint]] and [[Hugo Wull|Big Bucket]]. Stannis now has an additional three thousand men and attacked [[Deepwood Motte]] in what became known as the [[Retaking of Deepwood Motte]].{{Ref|aDwD|26}} Stannis took several ironborn captive such as [[Asha Greyjoy]] he then returns Deepwood Motte back to [[House Glover]] this act gained him popular support in the North and earned him the support of [[House Glover]] and [[House Mormont]]. In a sample chapter released in the Winds of Winter, it was however revealed that Stannis is still alive and supports the theory that the letter written by Ramsay about the battle with Stannis was just a lie Ramsay wrote in his wrath though it takes place before the last Jon Snow chapter of [[A Dance with Dragons]].

Stannis recieved the banker [[Tycho Nestoris]] and the two signed a contract, Stannis plans on sending the Banker back tot he Wall so he does not get caught up in the fighting.

Stannis is now aware of the planned treachery of [[Arnolf Karstark]] due to the message [[Jon Snow]] gave the banker. Stannis has Arnolf, his son [[Arthor Karstark|Arthor]] and three grandsons arrested and plans to execute them, whether the death will be quick or by fire depended on there willingless to confess. Stannis is at the moment is preparing his position to battle the coming vanguard of [[Roose Bolton]] army led by [[Hosteen Frey]]. Stannis is sending [[Justin Massey]] to escort [[Arya Stark]] (actually unknown to Stannis, [[Jeyne Poole]]) back to the Wall to reunite the girl with her brother [[Jon Snow]] in gratitude for Snow warning him of Karstarks planned treachery.

Stannis also orders Massey to go with [[Tycho Nestoris]] to [[Braavos]] where Massey will use the money given to him by the [[Iron Bank of Braavos]] to hire sellsword companies till he has a force of no less then twenty thousand strong and sail back to [[Westeros]].

Stannis agreed and planned on attacking the [[Dreadfort]] when [[Ramsay Bolton]] marches south to take [[Moat Cailin]] (unknown to Stannis was that Arnolf Karstark was working for the [[House Bolton]] and was trying to lure Stannis into a trap). [[Jon Snow]] however when hearing the plan persuedes Stannis not to go down this course as Jon knows how strong the Dreadfort is even with a small garrison.

Instead Stannis goes west to take [[Deepwood Motte]] which is currently in Ironborn hands. [[Jon Snow]] advises him to go through the mountains and win the support of the mountain clans [[House Flint of the mountains|Flint]], [[House Wull|Wull]], [[House Norrey|Norrey]] and [[House Liddle|Liddle]] who were loyal to [[Eddard Stark]], Stannis wins over several of their commanders, such as [[Torghen Flint|Old Flint]] and [[Hugo Wull|Big Bucket]]. Stannis now has an additional three thousand men and attacked [[Deepwood Motte]] in what became known as the [[Retaking of Deepwood Motte]].{{Ref|aDwD|26}} Stannis took several ironborn captive such as [[Asha Greyjoy]] he then returns Deepwood Motte back to [[House Glover]] this act gained him popular support in the North and earned him the support of [[House Glover]] and [[House Mormont]]. In a sample chapter released in the Winds of Winter, it was however revealed that Stannis is still alive and supports the theory that the letter written by Ramsay about the battle with Stannis was just a lie Ramsay wrote in his wrath though it takes place before the last Jon Snow chapter of [[A Dance with Dragons]].

Stannis recieved the banker [[Tycho Nestoris]] and the two signed a contract, Stannis plans on sending the Banker back tot he Wall so he does not get caught up in the fighting.

Stannis is now aware of the planned treachery of [[Arnolf Karstark]] due to the message [[Jon Snow]] gave the banker. Stannis has Arnolf, his son [[Arthor Karstark|Arthor]] and three grandsons arrested and plans to execute them, whether the death will be quick or by fire depended on there willingless to confess. Stannis is at the moment is preparing his position to battle the coming vanguard of [[Roose Bolton]] army led by [[Hosteen Frey]]. Stannis is sending [[Justin Massey]] to escort [[Arya Stark]] (actually unknown to Stannis, [[Jeyne Poole]]) back to the Wall to reunite the girl with her brother [[Jon Snow]] in gratitude for Snow warning him of Karstarks planned treachery.

Stannis also orders Massey to go with [[Tycho Nestoris]] to [[Braavos]] where Massey will use the money given to him by the [[Iron Bank of Braavos]] to hire sellsword companies till he has a force of no less then twenty thousand strong and sail back to [[Westeros]].

After the death of Ser [[Cortnay Penrose]] and with [[Storm's End]] in Stannis's control Stannis launched an [[Battle of the Blackwater|amphibious assault on King's Landing]]. His forces were defeated at the cusp of victory when [[House Lannister|Lannister]] and [[House Tyrell|Tyrell]] reinforcements unexpectedly arrived, seemingly led by Renly's ghost (it was in fact [[Garlan Tyrell]] wearing the deceased Renly's armour).

Stannis was counselled by [[Arnolf Karstark]] via raven messages to join his strength to his and attack the [[Dreadfort]]. Stannis agreed and planned on attacking the [[Dreadfort]] when [[Ramsay Bolton]] marches south to take [[Moat Cailin]] (unknown to Stannis was that Arnolf Karstark was working for the [[House Bolton]] and was trying to lure Stannis into a trap). [[Jon Snow]] however when hearing the plan persuedes Stannis not to go down this course as Jon knows how strong the Dreadfort is even with a small garrison.

Instead Stannis goes west to take [[Deepwood Motte]] which is currently in Ironborn hands. [[Jon Snow]] advises him to go through the mountains and win the support of the mountain clans [[House Flint of the mountains|Flint]], [[House Wull|Wull]], [[House Norrey|Norrey]] and [[House Liddle|Liddle]] who were loyal to [[Eddard Stark]], Stannis wins over several of their commanders, such as [[Torghen Flint|Old Flint]] and [[Hugo Wull|Big Bucket]]. Stannis now has an additional three thousand men and attacked [[Deepwood Motte]] in what became known as the [[Retaking of Deepwood Motte]].{{Ref|aDwD|26}} Stannis took several ironborn captive such as [[Asha Greyjoy]] he then returns Deepwood Motte back to [[House Glover]] this act gained him popular support in the North and earned him the support of [[House Glover]] and [[House Mormont]]. In a sample chapter released in the Winds of Winter, it was however revealed that Stannis is still alive and supports the theory that the letter written by Ramsay about the battle with Stannis was just a lie Ramsay wrote in his wrath though it takes place before the last Jon Snow chapter of [[A Dance with Dragons]].

Stannis recieved the banker [[Tycho Nestoris]] and the two signed a contract, Stannis plans on sending the Banker back tot he Wall so he does not get caught up in the fighting.

Stannis is now aware of the planned treachery of [[Arnolf Karstark]] due to the message [[Jon Snow]] gave the banker. Stannis has Arnolf, his son [[Arthor Karstark|Arthor]] and three grandsons arrested and plans to execute them, whether the death will be quick or by fire depended on there willingless to confess. Stannis is at the moment is preparing his position to battle the coming vanguard of [[Roose Bolton]] army led by [[Hosteen Frey]]. Stannis is sending [[Justin Massey]] to escort [[Arya Stark]] (actually unknown to Stannis, [[Jeyne Poole]]) back to the Wall to reunite the girl with her brother [[Jon Snow]] in gratitude for Snow warning him of Karstarks planned treachery.

Stannis also orders Massey to go with [[Tycho Nestoris]] to [[Braavos]] where Massey will use the money given to him by the [[Iron Bank of Braavos]] to hire sellsword companies till he has a force of no less then twenty thousand strong and sail back to [[Westeros]].

I believe that it's called "the Wall" and not "The Wall", so the ''the'' wouldn't belong. This is because we would have to rename the link every time it did not appear at the beginning of a sentence to get rid of the capitalized ''The''. On the other hand, [[The Bear and the Maiden Fair]] always begins with a capitalized ''The'' because it's a part of the song's title. The ''the'' in "the Wall" is like "the White House". I was intensely curious about how the Wall actually worked as a defensive structure until I read through the chapter describing the assault by the Wilding host. I thought it would be useful to describe why the defenders get such an advantage over an attacking force, and thus why it is so important to the defense of the Westerosi. It's unlike any other defensive structure I've ever read about (in contrast Hadrian's Wall wasn't really about defense at all, but mostly to force any and all trade to be concentrated and controlled). In an extreme case, gates can be filled with rock and ice, thus becoming as impervious as any other part of the wall. Scaling the Wall involves similar difficulties, as [[Jon Snow]] discovered when he feigned alliegence to the Wilding cause and joined an infiltration team. A team of determined climbers can reach the top, but only if undetected by defenders, who can easily knock them off with dropped objects or archery.
