[[Baelor Targaryen]] was a [[House Targaryen|Targaryen]] prince. He was the heir of [[Daeron II]] and [[Hand of the King]], but died before his father.
Born in the year [[Years after Aegon's Landing#Year 170 after Aegon's Landing|year 170]], [[Baelor Targaryen]], known as '''Baelor ''Breakspear''''', was the eldest son of King [[Daeron II Targaryen]]. His father named him after King [[Baelor I Targaryen|Baelor I]]<ref>[[The Sworn Sword]], page 57</ref>.

Baelor distinguished himself during the [[Blackfyre Rebellion]] by leading the Dornish-Stormland force who attacked the rearguard of the rebel army of [[Daemon Blackfyre]] during the [[Battle of the Redgrass Field]]. He was later named [[Hand of the King]] by his father and was recognized as a good Hand and "the soul of chivalry"<ref>[[The Hedge Knight]], page 26</ref>.

==In The Hedge Knight==
In the [[tourney at Ashford]] Prince Baelor vouches for [[Duncan the Tall]] because he knew Duncan's old master, Ser [[Arlan of Pennytree]]. Baelor had jousted with Ser Arlan of Pennytree in a tourney at Storm's End and had unhorsed him after breaking 4 lances<ref>[[The Hedge Knight]], page 25</ref>. Due to Baelor`s intervention Duncan was allowed to enter the lists.

When Duncan attacked Prince [[Aerion Brightfire]] to defend an innocent [[Tanselle|puppeteer]], Prince Baelor had a private word with Duncan and advised him. The next day Baelor sat together with Lord Tyrell and Lord Ashford in judgement of Duncan. Prince Aerion demanded a [[Trial of Seven]] which was granted.

With the help of [[Aegon V|Egg]] and Ser [[Raymun Fossoway]] Duncan was able to recruit five men to fight for him. They needed one more and because Baelor believed Duncan, he fought for him even though his nephew was the accuser. His brother, Maekar, was furious but Baelor said:<br>
''“This man protected the weak, as every true knight must, let the gods determine if he was right or wrong.”''<ref>[[The Hedge Knight]], page 55</ref>

The defending party won the trial but Baelor received a mortal blow to his head, probably from his brother, Prince [[Maekar I Targaryen|Maekar]].

==Family==
Bealor Targaryen was the eldest son of Daeron II. He had two sons, Valarr and Matarys. Both sons died in the [[Great Spring Sickness]] together with King Daeron. Baelor's brother Aerys I succeeded their father and was later succeeded by their youngest brother, Maekar, who had dealt the blow that had killed Baelor.
