Synopsis

Daenerys, Queen of in Meereen, is delivered the body of one of her Unsullied soldiers, Stalwart Shield. Stalwart Shield was visiting a brothel alone when he was set upon by the Sons of the Harpy, a secret society raised in opposition to Daenerys' rule, targeting her supporters for assassination (particularly ex-slaves). She orders an investigation, but has little hope that the culprits will be found.

She discusses her situation with Barristan Selmy. Her Dothraki are attempting to subdue the hinterlands of Meereen, while Brown Ben Plumm is in the north, defending against a feared attack from Yunkai. Daario Naharis, whom she secretly loves, is in the east attempting to make an alliance with the Lhazareen. After leaving the dead man she calls on her dragon Viserion, noting that all three of her dragons are growing larger and wilder. She dons a tokar and holds court.

Skahaz mo Kandaq of the shaven head recommends that the great families of Meereen must be punished for the murders at the hands of the Sons of the Harpy. Reznak mo Reznak her seneschal denies that the murderers are connected with the great families. Daenerys hears an embassy from the new king of Astapor, Cleon, who is asking both for her hand in marriage and support in a war against Yunkai. She tells the ambassador that Cleon should feed his own people before marching out to war.

The next petitioner is Hizdahr zo Loraq, a wealthy Meereenese noble, who wants Dany to reopen the fighting pits of Meereen. She refuses him for the six times and ponders whether she should take him as a husband in order to solidify her rule over the city. She hears a number of other petitioners, including shepherds who are claiming that her dragons have devoured their sheep. Reznak sends them all away, promising they will be compensated for their loss, but one man remains behind. He empties out a sack of burnt bones on the marble floor. To her horror Dany realizes they are not the bones of a sheep - they are those of a child.
