The ugly and sadistic Mord.brings beans for Tyrion, who is in one of the Eyrie's sky cell. Tyrion replies that a leg of lamb would be good, and then several other dishes, following with he is trying to not be particular. As always, as the Hungary Tyrion reaches for the plate, the oaf pulls it away from Tyrion, and then holds the plate over the edge of the cell, telling Tyrion to take. Tyrion is unwilling to step that close to the edge, and tells Mord is has decided he is not the hungry afterall. Mord lets the plate fall. Tyrion curses the oaf, and gets a kick from Mord before he leaves, closing and locking the heavy gate. Tyrion crawls to the corner to huddle under a thin blanket; Mord had taken the shadowskin cloak as soon as he had seen it.

Tyrion would have traded the open and cold Sky Cell for the dankest pit in Casterly Rock. When Mord had placed him in the cell he had promised him that he would fly, it might by 40 days. To make things worse, the floor slants towards the opening, making him afraid to close his eyes. Tyrion had been stupid, he opened his mouth and knew it at the time. When Robert had asked if he was the bad man, and been told yes. Then Robert states that he is so small. his mother announced the court that he slew the Hand of the King. This is when Tyrion opens his mouth and (puts his foot into it) states “Oh, did I kill him too.” He goes on to say that he wonders when he had enough time to do all this killing. He should have been silent but he was in a foul mood; his stunted legs had given up on the climb and he was humiliated by having to be carried the rest of the way up to the Eyrie by Bron. Lysa warns him about where he is, nowhere near Casterly Rock or any allies. Tyrion threatens them with the wrath of Jaime Lannister if any harm comes to him. He continued by saying that it was not a threat but a promise, and Robert hops to his feet upset and tells Tyrion he cannot hurt them there, and for his mother to tell him. She does. Tyrion knew that she was right given how hard it was to get here. He continues. It was only the intervention of Catelyn that saved him from being made to fly; Cat stated he was her promises. It was then that he was sent to the Sky Cells.

He had thought that they dare not kill him out of hand, but now he was not so sure. He was getting weaker every day, and Mord’s kicks would eventually do him serious harm assuming he did not starve to death first. He is sure that his father would have sent riders by now, and Jaime might be leading a host there. Cersei might get the King to demand that he sit in justice, which even Eddard could not object. Tyrion was sure he could win in a trial since the Starks was no proof he committed any murders. However, his sister has a low cunning, but her pride blinded her, and Jaime was worse: rash, headstrong and quick to anger. He wonders which of his siblings had set the footpad to kill Bran Stark and wondered if they had conspired at the death of Lord Jon Arryn. Sending a footpad to kill Bran was unbelievably clumsy, and Tyrion wonders there is some other force involved, and he was a pawn.  He has to get out of here soon, and he had no chance of overpowering Mord, so he had to talk himself out.

Tyrion crawls to the corner to huddle under a thin blanket that has replaced the shadowskin cloak stolen by Mord. Tyrion reflects that he would gladly trade the cold and open sky cell for the dankest pit in Casterly Rock. When Mord placed Tyrion in the cell he promised that, sooner or later, Tyrion would fly. To make things worse, the floor slants towards the opening, making Tyrion afraid to sleep, lest he slip towards the edge.

Tyrion hammers on the door yelling for Mord. Mord is furious that Tyrion was making noise. Tyrion remembers not to show he was afraid. He asks Mord if he would like to be rich, and Mord strikes him with a leather strap. It takes a lot of talk about Lannister gold while getting slapped hard by Mord’s strap. Finally Mord starts listen, telling him that Cat would not keep his gold since Cat is honorable and would never rob him. Tyrion tells him that there would be not risk to him, he only has to deliver a message: tell Lysa that he wishes to confess his crimes. Tyrion tells him that his purse is just a taste of “Lannister Gold” and tells Mord a lie that Jaime wears armor of solid gold plate (actually it is gilded steel, but Mord would not know the difference). Tyrion can tell that there Mord is greedy, but is also suspicious.  Telling him that he would write it down convinces him, and Mord brings pen and paper.

Tyrion remembers when Lysa Arryn announced to her court that Tyrion had slain Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King. That was when Tyrion put his foot in it, remarking “Oh, did I kill him too.” He went on to wonder aloud when he would have had enough time to do all this killing. He should have been silent but he had been in a foul mood, having been humiliated by having to be carried the last leg of the climb to the Eyrie by Bronn. Lysa warned him about where he was but he threatened them with the wrath of Jaime Lannister all the same. He even declared his threat a promise and drove sickly young Lord Robert Arryn into a frenzy. It was only the intervention of Catelyn Stark that saved him from being made to fly when she insisted that Tyrion was her prisoner. Then he was sent to the sky cells.

Tyrion is shivering in his sleep when Ser Vardis Egen arrives with Mord. Before he goes with Ser Vardis, he asks Mord for the shadowskin clock he had taken for safe keeping, Ser Vardis tells Mord to jst get it, and Tyrion feels warmth again. He is escorted to the high hall filled with Lady Lysa’s knights and retainers to hear his confessions; Lady Lysa is in the smaller throne, and Tyrion is happy to see that Robert is missing from the high throne. The group that had come with him were there also, including Bronn, who is in the back with his eyes on Tyrion, and Marillion; this please Tyrion since he did not want whatever happened tonight to happen in secret. Cat speaks first, asking Tyrion if he is ready to confess his crimes. Lysa tells Cat that the Sky Cells always breaks them, to which Cat replies that he does not look broken. He thinks “now to roll the dice” and glances back at Bron. He then starts by saying he is vile little man and his crimes and sins are beyond counting: laying with whores hundreds of time, wished is father and sister dead, gambled and cheated, not treated his servants with kindness, said horrible things about those in the court. Lysa is furious, and Cat tells him pointedly that he is here to confess attempting to kill Bran and killing Jon Arryn. He replies that he cannot confess those crimes because he did not do them. Lysa orders Tyrion be taken to a smaller Sky Cell. Before he can be taken, Tyrion asks loudly if this is how justice is done in the Vale, he is accused of crimes, he denies them, and so he is thrown into a cell. He makes sure to show his bruised face to the crowd. He demands a trial where he can defend himself, and he be judged by the gods and men. He knew he had them. Lysa states that if he is tried and found guilty, he will go through the moon door; the moon door is opened, and beyond is the sky. Cat tells Lysa that this is unwise. Lysa states that her son will hear and judge his defense. Tyrion remembers Lord Robert stating the he wanted to see the man fly; Tyrion states he wants trial by combat, which the fills the hall with derisive laughter.  There are shout from thought out the hall asking to be given the honor of championing her cause. Lysa tells the hall that the one of the men who had been silent, Ser Vardis Egen, would her champion, but sinking to one knee he declines, saying that the man is no warrior, and it would be shameful. Tyrion is quick to agree, and demands a champion, Jaime. Lysa states he is hundreds of leagues from here. Then Tyrion turns to Marillion to tell him to make sure that when he makes a ballad of this to be sure to mention that he was denied a champion and sent lame and bruised and hobbling against Lysa’s finest knight. Lysa tells him to name his champion to die for nothing. Finally, with a stirring in the back of the chamber, Bronn states he will be his champion.

Tyrion in the Eyrie's Sky Cells
