Minor characters

We probably have at least thousand minor characters that are not important enough for someone to draw but at the same time we are still missing artwork for some of the main/Important characters that we should try and update.
You mentinonned an interesting point: I have seen a number of images of minor characters of which the quality is not perfect. We can the artists for permission or should we wait for better images? Scafloc
IMO, any illustration is better then none, unless it's just plain wrong I will not cut hairs, besides we can always add an appropriate description to it.Mor 16:58, 7 September 2011 (CDT)
There are some pictures of minor characters on deviant art. I'll ask the artists if we can show some of them. Scafloc 04:13, 8 September 2011 (CDT)

Amok

I started working on the Targarian Dynasty with Amoka Portraits set, the male part seem to be complete. Mor 13:33, 7 September 2011 (CDT)
I had the imprsession that the pictures of the kings were not allowed. I will look it up.Scafloc
I hope not, I followed exactly whats it's said. I used portraits, medium size, attributed to Amoka and even added the additional description... so hope it's not a problem if Amoka ask as not use those portraits then we will remove them.Mor 16:58, 7 September 2011 (CDT)
Found it: on an old wikipedia page it is stated that he gave permission to use the portrait images on his site but not any he had commissioned for any other companies. As the Targaryen king's were made for "The Art of A Song of Ice and Fire", this means we cannot use them.Scafloc 04:02, 8 September 2011 (CDT)

Categories of images per artist

Btw, any idea how did they managed this [1] I doubt that Ted Nasmith gave them permission to use his work and if so maybe something like that will compel people to want to bring their works to us? Mor 16:58, 7 September 2011 (CDT)

I have no idea. I think that most wiki's do not bother themself much with copyright issues. And as most artists do not protest very loud the pictures stay.
For the use of categories: yes if we are using a lot of pictures (4 or more?) from a particular artist setting up a category seems a good idea. For now I think we should only upload pictures that we are using in the articles. So at the moment the categories or using them as extra attraction for the artist is not needed I think. I was thinking more in the direction of fan art directory, like the french wiki use, this way our fans can contribute to the community, get publicity and make our articles look better at the same time. But First thing First, there is no need to reinvent the wheel, I assume we can use Images from westeros Galleries, I am especially interested in the Maps. Mor 09:06, 8 September 2011 (CDT)
Do you have an idea under which licence should we use those? Mor 09:06, 8 September 2011 (CDT)
well apparently we are not necessary true as asoiaf and awoiaf can be considered as different part of westeros and thus the licence not apply :( , I am still trying to get in contact with 'Other-in-Law' as love his map and the depiction of the seven by him.

on topic of 'Categories of images per artist', you may have noticed that we got an Portal:Images set up, to attribute all the great art work used on the wiki to the artist who made them, some exposure and a linkback is always nice. note, that as of now, unless stated otherwise the artist linked there has given me permission to use only their artwork featured on their deviantart profiles. (should really copy&paste the specifics somewhere for proper documentation). so, just keep in mind that according the policy of this wiki we need permission to use images, which makes our life harder *sighs*, although most of the artist I contacted agree to allow us to use their art. Making wiki look better

Following Pale griffin comment on the Forums about brightening up the pages, I have started adding some game of thrones location screen caps and other content to brighten up our pages. is there any suggestion? Mor 05:18, 8 September 2011 (CDT)

  • Judging by the empty Category:Houses_without_COA it seem that our recent push on Heraldry and COA, have completed the Houses COA visualisation part, Congrats and good work everyone! --Mor 16:49, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
  • Note, I have changed the categorization settings Category:Houses_without_COA will now include all houses that do not include COA image, not as before when I placed all houses with COA description and no Image(since we finished that list) also I created the Category:Houses with COA, so you can easily review all the houses with COA(alternatively you can use Category:Coat_of_arms_images), So if you want to review/improve existing COA, see if some house was missing a COA description you can. also you can add existing COA to Nobel/knightly character pages and gazillion other things ;) --Mor 17:22, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
