Aemma Arryn[1] was the queen consort and first wife of King Viserys I Targaryen.
History
Aemma was the daughter of Lord Arryn and his wife, Princess Daella Targaryen, herself the daughter of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and his sister-wife Alysanne Targaryen. Aemma and Viserys had been married for ten years when Viserys became king in 103 AC.[1]
Aemma was the mother of three sons, who died in infancy, and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, known as the "Half-Year Queen" and the chosen heir of her father Viserys. Aemma died birthing Baelon Targaryen, who died a day later.
Her daughter Rhaenyra's struggle for the Iron Throne against her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen, son of her father with his second wife Alicent Hightower, resulted in a bloody civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Rhaenyra died in the war and Aegon II became king. Upon Aegon II's death, he was succeeded by Aegon III Targaryen, his nephew and Aemma's grandson.[2]
