A Clash of Kings
Ser Arys is regarded as one of the kinder Kingsguard under Joffrey I, often making pleasant conversation with Sansa Stark. When Joffrey orders his Kingsguard to beat Sansa Stark, Ser Meryn Trant, Ser Boros Blount, Ser Preston Greenfield and Ser Mandon Moore carry out the command without qualm or question. Arys, when ordered, hits Sansa but as lightly as he dares, and only after objecting first.[4] He is also skilled with the lance, displaying absolute confidence in his ability to win a small tournament on King Joffrey's name day, despite the presence of other Kingsguard. Ser Arys is sent to the kingdom of Dorne to guard Princess Myrcella Baratheon, who is betrothed to Trystane Martell.[5]
A Storm of Swords
Tywin Lannisiter receives a letter from Oakheart. He writes that Myrcella is well and that she and Prince Trystane get along well.
A Feast for Crows
He is seduced by Arianne Martell, daughter of Prince Doran Martell and heiress to the throne of Dorne. She convinces him to rebel against the Iron Throne and support Myrcella's claim over her brother Tommen's.[6] When the conspiracy is uncovered, Arys stages a mad charge into Martell forces, killing two of their number before being killed himself by Areo Hotah, the captain of Prince Doran's guard.[7]
