Ser Axell Florent is the castellan of Dragonstone for Stannis Baratheon.[1]

Appearance

He is a homely and stout man, round with thick arms and bandy legs. He has the prominent ears for which House Florent is known. He has hairy ears.[2]

History

He has been castellan of Dragonstone for ten years while Stannis was away in King's Landing serving on the King's Small Council, having replaced an unknown predecessor who served the previous five years.[3]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Ser Axell supports Stannis' claim to the Iron Throne. He emerged as the foremost of the Queen's Men and a fervent believer in R'hllor.[4] Despite him being more courteous to Davos Seaworth than other lords supporting Stannis, Davos doesn't trust him because House Florent had declared for Renly.[5] When Stannis sailed for Storm's End, he left Axell behind on Dragonstone.[6]

A Storm of Swords

Ser Axell arrested Ser Davos Seaworth in Aegon's Garden when Ser Davos plotted to kill Melisandre.[7] Ser Axell urged Stannis to attack Claw Isle the seat of House Celtigar whose Lord Ardrian Celtigar abandoned Stannis after the Battle of the Blackwater and put the island population to the sword, but Davos Seaworth persuaded Stannis not to go down this course.

A Feast for Crows

When Stannis went north to the Wall, he left Ser Axell at Eastwatch-by-the-sea with Stannis' wife, Selyse.[8]

A Dance with Dragons

He takes charge of the household of his niece Queen Selyse at Eastwatch-by-the-sea. He uses the title Hand of the Queen. He accompanies Queen Selyse to Castle Black after she sets out for the Nightfort. There he is to marry the eldest daughter of Gerrick Kingsblood.
