A Feast for Crows

Ser Balman Byrch attends the funeral of Lord Tywin Lannister with his wife, Falyse.[1]

Queen Regent Cersei Lannister asks Ser Balman to ensure the death of his good-brother, Bronn, after Bronn gives the bastard child of his wife Lollys Stokeworth the name Tyrion, after Tyrion Lannister.[2] Although Cersei suggests that Bronn should suffer a mortal mishap,[2] the chivalrous Balman challenges Bronn to a duel instead, believing the former sellsword's lack of experience on horse will ensure his victory. However, Bronn drives his lance through the chest of Balman's horse, causing the horse to fall and crush Balman's legs. Putting a knife in Balman's eye, Bronn threatens Balman's wife Falyse into leaving the castle. Having been promised mercy by Bronn, Balman confesses to having been sent by the Queen Regent.[4]
