Recent Events

In A Game of Thrones

He attends the Tourney of the Hand in King's Landing. He defeats Alyn, but is then beaten by Ser Gregor Clegane.[1] He also takes part in the archery tourney where he ends up second, failing to beat Anguy. He participated in the boar hunt that killed King Robert I. He remains at court after the death of the King.

In A Clash of Kings

Ser Balon takes part in the Tourney for King Joffrey's 13th Name Day, unhorsing Morros Slynt in the second tilt of the day.[2]

He supports King Joffrey I in King's Landing whereas his brother successively serves the kings Renly I and Stannis I. During a dinner given by Lady Tanda Stokeworth, Lord Gyles Rosby raises his glass "at the health of the kings", and Ser Balon Swann replies that three glasses would be needed (King Joffrey being at war with his two uncles Stannis and Renly at the moment, both of whom claim the crown). The joke was meant to raise the spirits of the guests, and Lord Varys, informed, reports it to Tyrion Lannister, who decides not to follow up on it.

Ser Balon is among the party that sees Princess Myrcella off to Dorne. He survived the riot in the streets when the party was attacked by the raging mob.

Ser Balon is chosen for the Kingsguard by the Queen Cersei to replace Ser Preston Greenfield. He fights bravely during the Battle of the Blackwater, where he leads Lannister forces, then fights with Tyrion and his men.

In A Storm of Swords

He is the only person to testify in favor of Tyrion Lannister at his trial.

In A Feast for Crows

He is sent to Dorne to bring to Prince Doran Martell the head of Ser Gregor Clegane.
