Benfred Tallhart is the eldest son and heir of Ser Helman Tallhart, the head of House Tallhart. He is a tall boy, noisy and abrupt. During his visits in Winterfell, he hangs around with Robb Stark and Theon Greyjoy.

Recent Events
In A Game of Thrones
When his father leaves Torrhen's Square to head to Moat Cailin, and then follow Robb Stark during the War of the Five Kings, he leaves his heir in the familly castle, which he names his brother Leobald to protect.
In A Clash of Kings
Excited by Robb Stark's successes at the War of the Five Kings, he surrounds himself with a troop of young men, of whom the oldest isn't nineteen, and calling themselves "young wolves". Leobald Tallhart mocks them calling them "young rabbits", but they circumvent the name taking the name of "wild hares."[1] They scour the country, rabbit skins attached to they spears, singing knight songs, until Ser Rodrik Cassel orders Leobald to sort them out.
Benfred and his company ride out to the Stony Shore to see if the rumors of Ironborn raiding are true. They do not expect that the enemy will have many men and did not send scouts ahead. Theon Greyjoy and his Ironmen easily surprise and defeat the Wild Hares. Benfred is wounded and captured. He refuses to answer any questions, calls Theon a traitor and spits on him. For this Aeron Greyjoy has him drowned.
Appearance
Benfred is described as a "a big, bluff, loud boy" , with a thick neck.[2] [3]
