|Died||In 59 AC, near Highgarden|
According to Archmaester Gyldayn, Lord Bertrand was a well-known drunkard. Lord Manfryd Redwyne held an unfavorable opinion of his liege, believing that the Tyrells were dolts and Lord Bertrand a sot.
When Lord Daemon Velaryon resigned the office of Hand of the King in 54 AC, several names were brought up and then quickly dismissed as potential replacements. Lord Bertrand was among them, for he was known to be a drunkard and the small council feared that his unruly sons would bring disgrace to the Crown.
In the terrible winter of 59 AC, the Shivers hit Highgarden. Bertrand sickened but survived, only to perish, drunk, in a fall from his horse four days after his recovery. He was succeeded as Lord of Highgarden and Lord Paramount of the Mander by his eldest son.
