The Bleeding Sea lies in eastern Essos, along the southeastern border of the plains of the Jogos Nhai and south of N'Ghai. It is also east of the Shrinking Sea.[1][2] The Five Forts stretch along the southeastern tip of the sea. The Land of the Shrykes is on the eastern side of the Bleeding Sea, as well as the city of K'Dath. The Cannibal Sands lie at the northwestern edge of the sea.

In The Lands of Ice and Fire map collection the sea is portrayed as red in colour, which may be how the sea acquired its name. There is a small island in the northern part of the sea. Roughly five rivers connect to the Bleeding Sea; one runs south through to Jinqi and the Jade Sea.

Behind the scenes

The Bleeding Sea has not yet been mentioned in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, only appearing in the map collection The Lands of Ice and Fire.
